Opportunity Summary

Generally, the position is to conduct technical advisory services, including Owner’s Engineering and Independent Engineering, related to solar and renewable energy. More specifically, the primary focus of the position is to conduct technical engineering, equipment due diligence, performance testing provision and results reviews, and development support related to integrated solar + battery energy storage projects for the purpose of project financing. Any energy storage work will be supported by an energy storage team member. The person in this position will provide services that fall within each of the stages of a project’s lifecycle, including development, pre-financing, financing, construction, performance testing, O&M review, divestiture, decommissioning and redevelopment. This person should be a technology specialist and will participate on a team of other specialists and subject matter experts. E3 is a seller-doer model, and as such each team member is expected to actively participate in business development including bringing in new projects and clients to support the overall team objectives.

Primary Duties

Project Management

  • Support solar energy evaluations and reviews
  • Support E3’s solar team through continuous improvement and training opportunities
  • Ensure quality, consistency, and schedule deadlines of E3 deliverables
  • Report to E3’s solar practice lead on opportunities for improvement in quality and workflow

Equipment and Design Review

  • Assist the Project Manager and solar team manage the review of electrical, structural, and civil design documents to verify projects are designed according to industry standards
  • Stay attuned to industry standards and trends for equipment selection, performance, bankability, etc.
  • Maintain relationships with solar major equipment (e.g., modules, inverters, racking) manufacturers to discuss issues, stay abreast of industry trends and opportunities
  • Compare warranty terms and conditions against other similar projects

Site Visits

  • Coordinate or attend E3 visits to project sites to verify construction progress or completion according to specified benchmarks
  • Ensure the project site adheres to environmental guidelines
  • Validate as built construction against PVsyst resource modeling assumptions

Scope of Responsibilities

Decisions are made within policy constraints. Performs duties independently with general directions. Determines own practices and procedures, contributing to the development of new concepts. Job encounters recurring work situations with variations from the norm, involving a moderate degree of complexity. Contacts are normally made with others inside and outside the company, including customers, other department personnel, immediate associates, and own supervisor. Contacts are usually made on own initiative concerning matters requiring explanation, discussion, interpretation, or approvals.

Working Relationships

This position reports directly to the Executive Director – Energy Storage. This position serves as a technology specialist and will provide support to others on the E3 team.

Compensation

The initial compensation will range from $96,200 – $110,700.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in science-based field such as engineering, materials science, atmospheric science, or equivalent with two to seven years of relevant solar experience, which could include design, development, construction, or operations.

Specific Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing, including delivering presentations
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to use Microsoft 365 skills, including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • History of using sound judgment to make decisions and set priorities
  • Electrical photovoltaic design experience preferred. High voltage and medium voltage experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with interconnection requirements, design, and installation preferred.
  • Experience in the Independent Engineering field is a plus
  • Strong network of contacts from key project participants in the solar field (e.g., OEMs, EPC contractors, developers, lenders, tax-equity investors, etc.) preferred
  • Strong knowledge of equipment fundamentals including modules, inverters, racking, transformers, control systems/SCADA, and metering, required
  • Willingness to travel for work as needed (approximately 10-25 percent)

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

This is a full time position that requires 40 working hours a week. We offer a flexible hybrid work schedule, including allowing for working remotely or in the office.

Extended hours will likely be required from time-to-time during business travel or to accommodate Clients’ project schedules.

Because the position requires both in office and on-site work, the physical requirements include the ability to sit for long periods of time, ability to communicate verbally, and in writing, and ability to handle long periods of screen time.

In addition, travel may be required to meet client or project requirements. Work is performed on industrial sites when traveling, requiring protective clothing and equipment, ability to climb ladders, stairs and stand for long period of times.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around plant facilities.

Performance

All employees have the responsibility to both the client and their co-workers to do the job right the first time, and to ensure the customer’s needs are being met.

E3 evaluates performance throughout the year. Official performance reviews are completed on an annual basis.
