Overview
The Assistant Purchasing Manager reports to the Director of Food and Beverage and is responsible for ordering, receiving, inventory management and controls. Maintain proper food safety standard and HACCP controls including tracking and recording of temperature. Support department needs by sourcing requested items, pricing of equipment and placing orders. Daily entry of company’s inventory management system and maintaining show records. Scheduling and management of departments represented work forces.
This role will pay an hourly wage of $25 – $27.

McCormick Place located in downtown Chicago is the largest and most flexible convention center in North America., With over 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space, the campus proudly hosts some of the world’s largest and most prestigious conventions, meetings, and trade shows, welcoming approximately 3 million visitors to Chicago every year.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Understands and effectively communicates OVG policies and procedures
• Communicates with all internal teams and understand the information needed to support the Concessions and Suites/Catering operations
• Facilitates the purchasing, requisition and distribution process
• Purchases food, beverage, and supplies based on event schedule
• Delegates tasks to warehouse lead, warehouse staff and linen/uniform room staff
• Oversees sanitation and safety of warehouse
• Communicates vendor performance and service to Director of Food and Beverage
• Makes informed and cost-effective decisions pertaining to product, receiving, storage and distribution
• Assists in monthly inventory
• Use of progressive discipline of staff when necessary
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in purchasing and/or contract administration and negotiation related to procurement activities required
• Must have strong knowledge of food and beverages and be up to date on current trends
• Extensive knowledge of Quest or similar food service program
• Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to prioritize effectively
• Strong knowledge of PC software, including proficiency in Excel and Word and using email
• Proven abilities to lead and develop staff
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Must be able to work flexible schedule
• Experience working with union employees and understanding Collective Bargaining Agreement preferred
• Ability to take tasks that are not clearly defined and appropriately define problem, propose and implement solutions
• ServSafe and TIPS/BASSET certified
