We have Assistant Recreation Center Coordinator vacancies in Community Centers across the city. These positions will support Recreation programming for our Community Center programs. This is an in-person position. Part-Time Positions available at Rainier Beach Community Center and Bitter Lake Community Center.

The Recreation Division eliminates barriers through responsive, exceptional recreation services. We operate over 50 recreation facilities. Some of these include community centers, teen centers, pools, school-based learning centers, environmental learning centers, and boating and sailing centers. We provide opportunities for people to play, learn, and lead healthy, active lives. Our programs and events include fitness and athletics, licensed childcare and preschool, swimming and boating, youth development and job preparation, academic enrichment, and so much more — including programs designed for older adults and people with disabilities, as well as grant and partnership programs designed and implemented with immigrant and refugee communities.

Seattle Parks and Recreation operates 26 Community Centers across Seattle that offer a wide array of services and programming to Seattle residents of all ages, including drop-in recreational activities, educational classes, cultural events, preschool and school-age care programs, and more. Job Responsibilities

As an Assistant Recreation Center Coordinator, you will work collaboratively with organizations, businesses, and individuals to provide a variety of innovative programs and special events for the communities we serve.   • You will Assist the supervisor (Recreation Center Coordinator) in planning, and coordinating recreational programs for the general public. This will include Arts & Culture, Environmental Stewardship, Lifelong Learning, Out of School Programs, Special Events, Programs and Partnerships, and Sports & Fitness, which meet the needs of our diverse communities.
  • You will assist in supervising regular and temporary staff, as well as volunteers assigned to the community center and its associated facilities.
  • You will assist in supervising and training volunteers to support special events at the center and other facilities. Additionally, you’ll help recruit volunteers, officials, and instructors for sporting events.
  • You will promote and market Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Associated Recreation Council (ARC) programs, facilities, and services in cooperation with community center advisory councils and Recreation staff.
  • You will work collaboratively with other Assistant Recreation Center Coordinators in the design, production, and distribution of the Geographic District brochure.
  • You will develop community partnerships (Public Schools, Community Service Providers, Social Service Agencies, etc.), maximizing limited resources and strengthening the neighborhood.
  • You will provide leadership, build teamwork, enhance the skills and abilities of staff, and represent the department positively in the community.
  • You will provide input for the preparation of the center’s annual budgets, and recommend activity budgets for recreation programs, prepare grant proposals, and prepare recommend budgets to be included in the development of the annual advisory council budget.
  • You will support the work of the department by collecting data and providing reports related to facility use, revenue/expenditures, performance measures, and other administrative information.
  • You will assist in pursuing resources for the department as well as program support, including the solicitation of donations.
  • You will assist in overseeing the operation and maintenance of the facility and the surrounding grounds to ensure a safe, clean environment and welcoming appearance.
  • Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Recreation Administration, Physical Education or a related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Outside work is required in all types of weather. Work involves occasional exposure to hostile program participants. Work requires occasional long periods of standing or walking. Frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds.
License, Certification and Other Requirements
May be required to work evenings or weekends. Current Washington State driver’s license. First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate required within six months of hire.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience creating partnerships with community-based organizations
  • Experience serving on a neighborhood/community committee.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Budgetary experience.
  • Ability to work with culturally specific communities, which may include immigrant and first-generation refugee populations, and the ability to provide both traditional and nontraditional recreation activities for a variety of age groups.
  • Familiarity with computer software packages, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and program/scheduling software.

The full salary range for this position is $32.61 – $37.98 per hour.
