Job Summary
MAJOR FUNCTION: Responsible work in the coordinating segments of education and recreational programs in a community center or park setting. . Responsible for overseeing the daily operations at the Lincoln Park and Walton Community Center under the supervision of a Coordinator.
Essential Job Functions
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS NEEDED IN ORDER TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of Community planning recreation and the ability to formulate and administer complex recreational and educational programs, summer camp programs, personnel management and facility management.
Skills:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders and the general public.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to plan and supervise the work of staff and volunteers.
- Skilled in the organization, development and maintenance of a comprehensive recreation program and facility.
Abilities:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and fellow employees.
- Must possess effective written communications skills, decision making skills and time management skills.
- Ability to design recreation programs, including but not limited to summer camp & educational programs, identify and analyze specific community needs and promote interest in assigned program areas.
- Ability to supervise recreation personnel.
- Ability to operate a computer and produce reports, publications and data.
- Ability to maintain order and safety in a crowded and noisy environment.
- Maintain facility and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:
- Develop, coordinate and direct varied activities, programs and events involved in a community recreation program.
- Supervise the recreational activities of groups within an assigned area.
- Promote interest in all recreational activities, sports and athletics within the area through contacts and liaisons with interested groups and individuals.
- Supervise, train and evaluate the work of all paid and volunteer of the assigned locations.
- Participate in staff conference with Coordinator and or other Supervisors in planning comprehensive recreational programs.
- Conduct meetings with subordinate personnel and volunteers to discuss plans, programs and problems.
- Provide leadership by producing new programs, equipment and facilities to staff members and the community.
- Requisition equipment and supplies as needed.
- May handle some financial responsibilities, product reports, publications and data using a computer other equipment and applications.
- Preform related work as required or assigned.
- Work may include weekends, nights and/or varied schedules.
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: During emergency conditions, all County employees are automatically considered emergency service workers. County employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS: Use of both hands and fingers with dexterity. Constantly walking, standing use of both hands and fingers, and legs, very frequently light lifting (30 lbs. or less), frequent heavy lifting (up to 75lbs). Frequent light carrying (3o lbs. or less) reaching above shoulders, kneeling, bending and squatting. Good hand/eye coordination and near and far vision. Good hearing. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION REQUIREMENTS: Work outside under adverse weather conditions of heat, cold, humidity and rain. The Recreation Supervisor may find the environment to be busy and/or noisy and will need excellent organization and time and stress management skills to complete the required tasks. Working in air-conditioned office.
WORK HAZARDS: Inherent risk of injury while participating in physical activity.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT USED OR NEEDED: Equipment used or needed may depend on the activities or the duties in which the employee is performing at the time. Auto safety belt.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Health or closely related fields.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three years paid supervisory experience administering recreation and/or parks programs. A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
LICENSE CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION: AED/CPR Certification required upon hire or to be completed during probationary period. Additional certifications and/or training may be required for this position. Certification as a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred. Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.

Driving Position – Operating County vehicles and/or equipment is a primary function of this position.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING: This position requires a physical, drug testing, driver’s license verification and level 2 background screening which includes fingerprinting.

SICK LEAVE
Sick Leave with pay shall be accrued at a rate of one (1) working day for each month of service, twelve (12) days a year. There will be no maximum on the amount of sick leave an employee may accumulate.
