Job Classification: Regular, Full Time, Non-Exempt

Compensation: Depending on experience, starting at $38.46/hour

The role of the Assistant Superintendent is to assist the Superintendent with a variety of management functions throughout the development and physical construction of USA Construction Management new and or rehabilitation construction projects. This includes the responsibilities and functions noted.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Superintendent with supervising all construction relate activities and labor forces for the project both on and off site.
  • Maintain safety on the project site at all times as directed by the Cal OSHA Guidelines and USA Construction Management Safety Program. Limit the company’s exposure and liability by fulfilling all safety, housekeeping and required documentation of these operations.
  • Maintain a clean and sediment free site as required by the State Water Quality Control Board.
  • Maintain all required daily documentation as required by the Superintendent’s Notebook pertaining to Cal OSHA and SWPPP.
  • Work directly with the Superintendent and Vice President of Field Operations to achieve the objectives for the project.
  • Report all variances on the project to the Superintendent in order to maintain the project schedule and intent of the project.
  • Assist the Superintendent with managing and coordinating the physical construction and oversight of the entire project.
  • Assistants need to conduct themselves professionally at all times.
  • Perform labor tasks as assigned by the Superintendent. Tasks may include but are not limited to, minor excavation, demolition, carpentry, punch list items and cleaning.
  • Perform clerical tasks as assigned by the Superintendent. Tasks may include but are not limited to producing schedule updates, punch lists, pre-inspection lists, safety documentation, safety violations and subcontractor correction notices.
  • Daily operations and oversight of the following; Demolition, Grading, Paving, Wet and Dry Utilities, foundation Concrete, Framing, Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical, Fire Systems, Roofing, Interior Finishes and Landscaping.
  • General knowledge and comprehension of Civil, Structural and Architectural construction documents.
  • Prepare unit interiors, building exteriors and project site for final inspection and acceptance by the Property Management staff.
  • Prepare daily data entries for upload to the project website as directed by the Superintendent. This may include the collecting of subcontractor labor reports when required.
  • Coordinate and schedule the anticipated deliveries, labor and production schedules with subcontractors.
  • Enforce contractual housekeeping standards on all subcontractors and issue written notices when required to maintain a safe project worksite both interior and exterior.
  • Monitor and maintain your daily and weekly task assignments. Follow all tasks through to completion and report the completion or any remaining issues to the project Superintendent.
  • Maintain material and equipment inventory records.
  • Perform all other duties required as determined and directed by field management staff.

When USA Construction Management staff are conducting activities on an occupied project always refer to the Property Management -Community Manager for a written guideline of any special rules or requirements prior to and during any interaction with site tenants/ clients. Scheduling of work, deliveries storage of materials and unit access will require coordination with the site staff.

REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES

To perform the position of Assistant Superintendent successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience

A High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years construction related experience.

Language Skills

An ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and procedural manuals and safety documents. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to interact/communicate effectively in a professional and pleasant manner with Vendors, Associates, Stakeholders, Corporate Shareholders and Company Employees.

Mathematical Skills

Knowledge of basic math principles. Ability to effectively calculate figures and amounts and apply basic math concepts. Ability to figure slope grades, elevations, distance, square footage quantities, stair assemblies and production rates.

Technical Knowledge

Ability to operate proficiently within the in-house computer software program including Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Outlook and Excel. Ability to operate a fax, scanner/copier, telephone and personal computer.

Reasoning Abilities

The reasoning abilities described are representative (but not limited to) of the skills an employee must possess in order to successfully execute their position. The ability to utilize logic in order to draw conclusions and gauge results in a timely fashion. Apply principals of logical thought to a variety of situations and accurately follow standardized procedures. Ability to read and cross reference construction documents.

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to stand, walk/run forward, backward, sideways, bend, balance, climb, reach carry with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or sit down depending on the specific requirements of the day. The employee must occasionally lift, push pull and or move up to 60 pounds and must maneuver obstacles. Approximately 80% of the time is spent on the feet and 20% sitting at a desk. The employee is regularly required to work at heights and use hand and wrist motion.

Specific vision abilities required are acuity of 20/20 (natural or corrected). The position includes but is not limited to close vision, distance vision, color vision peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Specific hearing abilities include but are not limited to the ability to handle loud noises, hear sirens, alarms and verbal instructions with significant background noise.

The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required by the USACM Code of Safe Practices.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of but not limited to those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. The employee regularly performs work duties alone. The noise levels in this work are usually moderate to high. The work environment on a project site changes rapidly at any given time and the ability to adjust to these changes is paramount.

Construction sites are by nature dangerous and contain hazardous conditions such as traffic, air quality, dust, odors, noise heavy equipment and material movement. The employee must consider these issues at all times. Employees must be alert and aware of their surroundings, using sound judgement and evaluating safety and potential hazards for themselves and others.

Travel

Out of area assignments and travel by aircraft or automobile. Including multiple overnight stays are a requirement of this position. Assistants will be assigned to a project based on the requirements of USACM. Personal vehicles are utilized for company business and the employee will be reimbursed for the associated cost of this activity. Assignments may include out of state travel.

Requirement for Physical Examination

In order to determine the physical fitness of persons to serve in this position, all employees holding this position will be required to pass a general physical examination annually within ninety (90) days of the anniversary of his/her date of hire.
