Here’s a summary of responsibilities:
Under the direction and supervision of the Performance Data Scientist, the Associate Performance Data Engineer creates strategies to ensure data cleanliness and completeness and surfaces data for Performance Analytics applications. This role applies advanced data integration techniques to ensure the efficient flow of data and maintain quality. The Assoc. Performance Data Engineer designs and deploys new data solutions and monitors and enhances existing ones.
The ideal candidate will be an innovative thinker and quick learner who values efficient, high-quality work and effectively implements technical solutions accurately and at scale. We are looking for a detail-oriented, trusted problem solver with a passion for the Olympic and Paralympic Movements.
Here’s how you’ll have an impact:
- Performance Data Science Support
- Bring a deep understanding of reporting and modeling needs to all data integration efforts to drive data insights.
- Support work of Performance Analytics team and other stakeholders by translating data requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Design and publish trusted and verified data sources to enable analysis at scale.
- Implement best practices in documentation and version control to manage Performance Analytics code base and ensure consistent, repeatable solutions.
- Create a variety of reports for different stakeholder groups based on their needs, integrating relevant information sets for different populations and timelines.
- Stay apprised of emerging technologies and industry trends in data engineering and sports analytics.
- Database Integration & Management
- Architect data pipelines and processes to seamlessly integrate new data sources and systems into USOPC database architecture.
- Identify and acquire new data sets to fill gaps in Performance Analytics coverage, automating data collection where possible via web scraping, APIs, and PDF extraction.
- Standardize and automate data pipelines to match USOPC systems and database structures.
- Collaborate with the USOPC IT team in developing and implementing data models and database structures to ensure efficient storage and retrieval of Performance Analytics information.
- Data Quality
- Monitor and optimize existing data feeds (internal and third party) for completeness, performance, and scalability.
- Perform data cleaning, validation, and feature engineering to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Create strategies to audit for data-related issues and implement solutions in a timely manner.
- In collaboration with USOPC IT, deploy models and manage development and production environments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Here are the skills and experience you’ll need to be effective:
- B.S. or equivalent in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Analytics, Engineering or related field required
- 1-3 years of experience delivering data engineering solutions in high-performance environments (internships or applicable college/university level classes may be combined for this requirement)
- Knowledge of data integration techniques, ETL processes, and data pipeline and database (SQL, Snowflake) architecture
- Successful implementations of web scraping techniques and extracting data from APIs and PDFs
- Ability to apply clean and tidy data best practices
- Excellent programming skills in R, Python, SQL, and/or Java
- Knowledge of machine learning, feature engineering, and parallel computing
- Knowledge of cloud data infrastructure environments (Azure, Snowflake, AWS)
- Knowledge of big data processing frameworks (Hadoop, Apache Spark, or similar) strongly preferred
- Automation and continuous improvement of data collection and analysis tools
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with ability to work effectively within a team
- Accountable for detail-oriented, accurate, high-quality work
- Quick and adaptable learner, applying new skills and technology on a project-by-project basis
- Ability to follow HIPAA and USOPC data privacy policies

- This is a home-based role that may work from anywhere within the U.S., or a defined location based on business need.
Here’s some more information you need to know:
- Hiring Pay Range: $64,326 – $68,000
- This is a full-time, exempt position intended to work 40 hours per week.
- Bonus: This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program at a 10% target. This program is subject to change or elimination by the USOPC at any time at its sole discretion.
