Job Summary

As a key member of the Property Tax Group, the Accountant will report to the Property Tax Manager. The selected candidate will be someone who is highly motivated and an analytical thinker, working through complex problems in order to reach justifiable conclusions to support their team, by utilizing both technical and analytical expertise to ensure financial data integrity and project completion. Provide support to meet business goals and objectives. Multitasking abilities are a plus; at times, they will have to pivot and shift their priorities.

Job Responsibilities
• Analyze property tax payments
• Process property tax payments in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with the LIPA Reform Act.
• Prepare ORPTS and other property tax filings.
• Analyze property assessments and identify opportunities to lower them.
• Prepare property tax funding requests
• Assist in the monthly financial closing processes.
• Record journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
• Perform reconciliations with explanations and supporting documentation.
• Analyze Property Tax Payment Descriptions and Location Data
• Assists with various audit tasks, including providing support/and or documentation for internal and external audit and various ad-hoc reports needed.
• Responds to and resolves issues and requests from business areas and client (LIPA) regarding various property tax matters, accounting issues and reports, and ad hoc requests.
• Develop and maintain analytical and processing tools, spreadsheets
• Assist in the identification, development and implementation of enhancements to meet business needs.
• Review classification of balance sheet and income statement in the general ledger report and prepares necessary adjustments in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
• Ensure the integrity of the books and records of the company.
• Researches open accounting and property tax issues and recognize potential issues and/or conflicts so corrective actions can intercept and minimize issues.
• Research data sources and select relevant financial information to enable analysis
• Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
• Prepare process documents and project plans

Job Specific Qualifications

Required Qualifications, Competencies, Education or Experience:
• Bachelors degree, preferably in Accounting or a relevant financial field
• Proven analytical and problem solving abilities.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of accounting and finance principles and practice under US GAAP.

Desired Qualifications, Competencies, Education or Experience:
• CPA Preferred
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to make sound judgments within established policies and procedures as well as challenge current processes in order to achieve greater efficiencies.
• Experience in responding to audit requests and preparing audit responses with adequate support.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to think from an objective perspective.
• Proficient in SAP (FI module)
• Experience in working with data analysis tools (SAP BO/BI, SQL, SAAS, etc.)
• Advanced Excel skills and prior experience with MS Access a plus.
• Ability to work in a highly regulated field.
• Knowledge and work experience with GASB accounting is a plus.
