Associate Counsel – Technology and Events (Hybrid)

Hybrid at the NBA is defined as a role that is expected to be on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Position Summary:

This position will be responsible for a variety of matters, including providing legal support and advice to the IT department, to Global Content and Media Distribution (GCMD), and across all functions on technology and data; and providing legal support and advice to the Events group.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Draft and negotiate vendor agreements, software and other license agreements, and other agreements to support operations of the IT department
  • Draft and negotiate technology, media operations and data agreements to support GCMD (including content production), Basketball Operations (including performance data), and across all business functions, as needed
  • Provide legal support and advice to Events, including drafting and negotiating agency, vendor, venue and talent agreements
  • Provide legal support and advice relating to USA Basketball, including commercial agreements and other matters
  • Perform special projects and other assignments, as requested by Vice President, Assistant General Counsel – Media and Events, and Legal Department senior staff

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Exceptional written and oral business communication skills
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills
  • Experience working on technology and data transactions
  • Creative problem-solving skills to assist in meeting business needs and seizing new opportunities, while mitigating risk and managing key relationships
  • High level of project management skills necessary to effectively support and advise clients across different business units
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance
  • Effective time management and organizational skills to balance competing priorities and manage workflow in a thoughtful and effective manner
  • 3-5 years of experience at a top-tier law firm and/or corporate legal department

Education:

  • Admission to practice in the State of New York Juris Doctor Degree Required

Salary Range

  • $190,000 – $215,000 per year
