Description
SUMMARY:
Under the direction and supervision of the WIC Director, the breastfeeding coordinator is responsible for promotion and support of breastfeeding activities at all sites within the Institute for Family Health and planning, implementation and evaluation of the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Develop, implement and coordinate all LA breastfeeding promotion and support activities, including the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program.
- Direct and supervise the activities of the peer counselor coordinator and peer counselors. Provide peer counseling training using the NYS WIC Peer Counselor Curriculum.
- Provide appropriate training in breastfeeding for staff directly involved with WIC participants.
- Coordinate breastfeeding promotional activities with healthcare systems, area lactation consultants, educational and community organizations, and coalitions providing care and support for breastfeeding.
- The breastfeeding coordinator will assume the responsibilities of the peer counselor coordinator in their absence.
- Work Hours 9am – 5pm, Every Second Thursday 11am – 7pm
Education:
Bachelors Degree in Dietetics/Food and Nutrition which meets ADA minimum requirements (RD eligible).
A minimum of one year nutrition education experience in a medical or community setting with proven nutrition counseling and teaching skills.
Bilingual, Spanish/English preferred.
Must attend a one-week training at the WIC Training Center in NYC within 6 months of hire.
Must take the Lactation Consultant Certification Training (CLC) provided by WIC Training Center within 6 months of employment EXPERIENCES AND/OR SKILLS REQUIRED
One (1) year WIC experience in supervisory capacity
