The Office of Development as part of University Advancement (UA) has a mission to maximize philanthropic impact at the University of Oregon. We do this by identifying, connecting, and engaging alumni and friends around the globe with their passions to advance the vision and priorities of the university.
The Strategic Engagement Team creates engagement opportunities that are designed to expedite movement through the donor pipeline and create the next generation of philanthropic leaders. Working with UA colleagues and specifically fundraisers, we craft individualized and targeted engagement strategies for specific constituents.
Position Summary
The Associate Director Digital Engagement (ADDE) serves as a front-line constituent engagement strategist, using virtual tools for the purpose of identifying and connecting alumni, parents, friends, and donors.
The ADDE creates strategic, digital engagement and volunteer opportunities for identified individuals, and analyzes data collected from virtual offerings to identify potential donors.
This position serves as a point of contact for virtual communities and builds relationships with and cultivates identified prospects and makes introductions to partners within University Advancement (UA) and solicits gifts when appropriate.
This position requires someone who is tech-savvy and has specialized knowledge of workflow organization, advertising campaigns, virtual events, social media strategy, podcasting, and alumni engagement.
This position can be located in Eugene or Portland. It is eligible to work a hybrid or mostly remote schedule, and will be expected to work in the office approximately one day per week. If the position is located in Portland, travel to Eugene will be necessary about once per month.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
• Two years of experience in customer service, preferably as a community manager, volunteer manager, brand evangelist, virtual event planner, or related role that involves creating and executing a community engagement strategy.
• Professional or volunteer experience hosting virtual events.
Professional Competencies
• Ability to use digital platforms to identify, cultivate, and engage donors and build relationships with key constituents connected with the university.
• Understanding of the donor cultivation process and the ability to develop strategies for reaching and engaging with prospects.
• Understanding of emerging digital media trends.
• Ability to analyze data collected through engagement opportunities, identify new strategies, and suggest areas for expansion.
• Ability to make a persuasive verbal and written case articulating how the UO distinguishes itself from peer institutions, connecting the interests of university alumni, friends, and prospects to engagement strategies; ability to maintain core campus relationships and familiarity with industry best practices and trends relevant to philanthropy in higher education.
• Ability to match pipeline strength, prospect, and donor interests, and engagement priorities in strategic planning.
• Ability to create a strategic plan that aligns with the priorities of the team as well as the institutional priorities.
• Ability to create effective social media campaigns, virtual events, newsletters, podcasts, advertisements, and other compelling content designed to generate engagement.
• Ability to regularly use Advance donor database and other tools to find and update information.
• Strong customer service skills, including the ability to interact with high-level donors and act as a representative of the university.
• Ability to maintain high levels of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
• Excellent organizational skills and administrative skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively, anticipate needs, and promote flexibility in a team environment.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, including providing excellent customer service.
• Self-motivated, punctual, and reliable; organized and flexible.
• Commitment to and experience with promoting and enhancing diversity and equity.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience growing a social media following.
• Experience in podcast production or audio editing.
• Experience with fundraising or alumni relations.
