Be part of the team responsible for designing and producing first-class live events and experiences for Dow Jones, The Wall Street Journal and WSJ Barron’s Group. The Dow Jones events team produces and designs well over 250 events a year (globally). These events are virtual, in-person and hybrid events of all shapes, sizes and formats, bringing our brands and custom experiences to life for our members and our clients. At the heart of what we do is live journalism – connecting our audiences with newsmakers and big ideas, via ambitious experiences.
As a member of the team, the Associate Director, Events will be responsible for working closely with the Event Directors to lead a team in the planning, design and execution of all elements required to produce high-quality member and client-focused virtual, in-person and hybrid events, globally. This role will be a key contributor to the strategy, design and development of relevant events and experiences for Dow Jones brands and for clients, while also identifying and supporting scalable and repeatable event solutions and ways of working.
The Associate Director, Events will play a key role in the design, planning and day-of production and delivery, while working closely with other teams, harnessing successful working relationships with internal creative, marketing, programming, news and sales teams. This role will contribute to the day-to-day management of partners and vendors to ensure that projects are on track and to brief. The Associate Director’s level of responsibility and involvement will fluctuate according to the scale of the event. This role will also focus on how we produce successful events and experiences for both live and digital audiences while ensuring that the event design and technical production translate for both.
Responsibilities
- Identify appropriate lead for events – be a consultant for your team or overall event lead/lead producer at each assigned event – including guidance and direction of both Dow Jones team and external vendors, ensuring that we have the right team for the event.
- Translate client and newsroom objectives into clear creative strategies
- Work hand in hand with Integrated Marketing & Sales Specialists on event ideation/concepts for sponsors/clients
- Continue the creation and trend of creating world-class entertainment/content
- Consult on all custom event pre-sale ideation
- Plan, manage and execute all logistical or design requirements for the event within budget
- Play a key role in identifying and selecting platforms and partners
- Act as the day-to-day point of contact for internal and external partners on assigned events, ensuring in-depth knowledge of the event and brand
- Create and maintain key event documents including event design and show look, ROS and production schedules, and event debriefs – enjoy, embrace and champion attention to detail
- Contribute/recommend an ongoing improvement for both attendee and sponsor experiences, and keep abreast of industry trends and developments
- Strong technical and video production knowledge and exposure, with an eye for understanding how a live experience translates for a digital audience
- Become a trusted partner for other teams and respective business units
- Lead by example – excellence in execution, teamwork, and communication
- Excellent onsite presence, briefings and management to ensure that the onsite team is always maximized
Qualifications & Qualifications:
- 8 years of experience in event production, marketing, budget management and planning and executing a variety of high-quality events.
- 2 years in a management role
- Experience in luxury and consumer sector
- Digital event experience
- Ability to be flexible, travel within the US, and occasionally internationally
- Experience managing heavy and conflicting event schedules,
- Excellent, professional oral, written and presentation communication skills
- Team-oriented and committed to fostering a positive team environment
- Excellent stakeholder management
- Excellent ability to pivot when required
