Position Summary:

The Claire Trevor School of the Arts, established in 1965, is a national leader in training emerging artists and performers. In 2000, the School was named in honor of Academy Award-winning actress Claire Trevor. The School delivers a superb developmental experience, combining exceptional artistic training with a top-ranked liberal arts education. It is home to the departments of Art, Dance, Drama, and Music. The Claire Trevor School of the Arts houses four theatres, a concert hall, three art galleries, the Beall Center for Art + Technology, electronic music, costume, lighting, and scenic design studios, a stage production shop, digital arts labs, and video and sound production studios. Our faculty and alumni are recognized globally for their contributions to art, culture, and industry.

The Associate Director of Development is a fundraising professional who works collaboratively with the Senior Director of Development and University Advancement colleagues to lead specific campaign development programs and secure significant philanthropic support for the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. The primary responsibilities of the Associate Director of Development are to manage and implement the annual fund and leadership giving programs and build corporate and alumni relations. The Associate Director of Development will also work routinely with the Senior Director of Development on campaign strategies, proposals, case statements, solicitations, donor and prospect research, communications, development reporting, and donor events. Under the direction of the Senior Director of Development, develop strategies to manage an annual fund program and support a major gifts program for the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of 100 – 125 Arts donors at the $1,000 – $25,000 level in an effort to encourage their support of the school. The pool of prospects is fluid, often evolving, and consisting of annual donors of $1,000 or more and prospects with the capacity to give annual gifts of $2,500 or more.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced, fundraising professional. Plans, schedules, and implements moderate-sized, comprehensive fundraising and alumni relations projects and programs, including specific fundraising programs such as annual fund, alumni relations, research, etc. May coordinate and oversee the work of support staff and / or other professionals. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Position is expected to raise gift dollar amounts as established at each fundraiser specialization.

Required:

3-5 years of professional fundraising experience

Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Thorough working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques. Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of professional fundraising experience, preferably at an arts or higher education institution; or equivalent combination of education/experience. Campaign fundraising experience preferred. Broad knowledge of the principles of annual and major gift fund-raising, and a demonstrated knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of external relations and the ability to apply creative techniques to the development process. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to practice sound judgment in communicating effectively with a diverse and high-level group of individuals in a diplomatic and professional manner, including both strong written and verbal communication skills. Resourcefulness in finding appropriate solutions to problems and initiative in presenting alternatives and implementing solutions to ensure effective change. Team-oriented strategist able to effectively manage complex situations involving multiple and sometimes competing constituencies. Ability to represent the institution professionally, externally and internally. Ability to prepare complex and detailed proposals and related materials. Well-organized, focused, and goal-oriented with an ability to prioritize and exercise good judgment. Skill in communicating persuasively, both orally and in writing, about private philanthropy in general and in particular as it applies to UCI. Required to drive on occasion in order to perform the routine or essential job responsibilities for the position. Must possess a valid California driver license and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program. Desire to collaborate with other advancement staff in devising, analyzing, modifying, implementing and evaluating overall University Advancement program. Ability to work effectively with university administrators, deans, faculty, and community volunteers to support the mission of the university.

Creativity and tenacity in approach to prospect development and ability to successfully move prospects across the donor continuum. Talent for matching donors’ philanthropic passions with the organizational initiatives for the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Experience with volunteer management and overseeing support groups. Knowledgeable of grant searching and application strategies. Demonstrable experience in stewardship plans leading to additional investments. Ability to work independently with department, school and institutional goals in mind. Possess traits of good judgment, confidentiality and discretion in communicating with colleagues and constituents.

Special Conditions Required:

Skill to use a personal computer and computer software programs at the level of sophistication required for the development office. Proven ability to use MS Office Suite and database programs. High proficiency in use of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
