Overview
Associate Director of Business Development, Group Sales and Tourism
Reporting to the AVP of Membership & Visitor Experience, the Associate Director of Business Development, Group Sales and Tourism is responsible for the growth of the Garden’s Group Sales, Tourism, Film & Photo, and ancillary business opportunities. Using well-honed skills in sales strategy, business development, event execution, and promotion, they will forecast, prospect, and secure future bookings to positively impact Garden revenues. They will be responsible for developing and managing sales by growing both B2C and B2B revenues for existing and new clients, and other earned income projects that fall within this business unit. This role will require cross-functional collaboration and interface with Visitor Services, Marketing, and other internal departments.
Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and helps to build and maintain an inclusive organization culture throughout the institution.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement an annual sales and promotion plan to grow group revenue and related business opportunities, achieve budgeted goals, and support business growth. Monitor effectiveness of initiatives and initiate changes as needed.
- Prospect for new business through telephone solicitation, outside sales calls, trade shows, FAM events, and networking.
- Act as key contact for internal collaborators and a “one-stop-shop” for external clients on all group-related questions and queries. Work with clients to both understand their needs and achieve maximum revenue potential.
- Research market opportunities and actively participate in associations, events, and networking. Monitor and evaluate the impact of trends in the industry and city. Expand tourism expertise.
- Develop an understanding of customer history to create personalized customer experiences. Maintain relationships with key & target accounts.
- Work hand-in-hand with Group Services operational lead and team. Execute and support the operational aspects of business booked as needed.
- Create and distribute reports and strategic analysis, both routine and bespoke, to management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Marketing, Business Administration or equivalent education and experience.
- 4+ years of experience in sales and/or marketing. Customer service/business operations experience a plus.
- Proven track record of revenue development; experience in budget forecasting.
- Customer focused, strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer and database skills. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and timelines.
- Analytical, with attention to detail and a skillset in assessing data.
- Collaborative attitude; motivates others and leads by example. Able to adapt to new and evolving organizational structure.
- Available to work evenings, weekends, and early mornings as events dictate. Occasional travel to trade shows, conferences, and networking events required.
- Must have valid driver’s license.
- Ability to move up to 25 lbs.

Salary is commensurate with experience within the following range $70,000 -$78,000.
