Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Associate Director of Student Health & Compliance is a leadership team member on the School Support and Service Team. The Associate Director is responsible for the implementation and progress monitoring of a variety of school-health related programs and activities including accurate documentation and management of student immunization records, managing the nursing partnership, managing the external health and assessment relationship with OSSE and ensuring all schools have the required health protocols and practices in place. In addition, the Associate Director will fully own the relationship between KIPP DC and Children’s School Services (CSS), as well as the contract with Capital City Nursing. The Associate Director works closely with the rest of the leadership team, namely the Associate DIrectors of Compliance to support school – based school support and service managers in implementing all health efforts. The Associate Director will also work closely with the Managing Director on new initiatives and efforts. This is an exempt position and reports to the Managing Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Health Initiatives – 40%

  • Oversee strategy and annual plan to ensure compliance with city guidelines around student immunizations and, universal health certificates including:
    • Working with the data team to track immunization compliance at the network level
    • Work with the communications team on outreach and awareness campaign to families
    • Work with managers to identify students who are out of compliance at the school level and develop the plan for outreach efforts
    • Schedule mobile clinics at campuses and manage sign-up process with parents
  • Work with Student Support Team to ensure all student medical alerts / allergies are accurate in student information systems and ensure student information team has the data imported into PowerSchool
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders to identify wraparound health services that support Whole Child Health for KIPP DC students
  • Codify health practices at KIPP DC to create a guide of standard operating procedures for training and alignment across teams

OSSE / External Health Relations – 20%

  • Lead relationship with OSSE, DC Health, PCSB, DBH on behalf of KIPP DC for all external health requirements including:
    • Ensure KIPP DC is compliant with all infectious disease (eg COVID) requirements in addition to overseeing KIPP DC’s annual compliance with all health and safety requirements set forth by the government
    • Representing KIPP DC in public comments and other requests for stakeholder feedback

Children’s School Services School Health Program – 20%

  • Manage relationship with Childrens’ School Services/School Health Suite Program, including:
    • Monitoring nurse staffing at all campuses
    • Coordination of the universal screening process (eg hearing and vision)
    • Sharing calendar and facility updates with Nurse Managers
    • Completing Health Suite approval process at new sites
    • Investigating nurse complaints from school leaders and resolving with Children’s staff
    • Continuing to focus on improvements in working relationship between KIPP DC and CSS.
  • Secure backup Health Suite coverage as needed
  • Participate in annual budgeting process for nurse-related expenses

General Health Compliance – 20%

  • Ensure all schools are compliant with a variety of health-related regulations, including:
    • Staff certified to administer medicine
    • EpiPen administration
    • Defibrillator program
  • Plan and execute annual Health assessment at all schools in the spring
  • Collaborate with schools to complete OSSE’s annual School Health Profile, and raise any gaps in programming to the academic team

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • At least 5-7 years experience working in a school or public health setting, supporting or managing state health compliance and regulations
  • Experience managing external partnerships such as with nursing contractors and OSSE preferred
  • Comfort working flexibly across the eight KIPP DC school campuses, typically at a different campus or the Headquarters office each day of the week
  • Outstanding project management and organizational skills, and extraordinary attention to detail
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving and relationship management skills
  • Flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate a high level of responsibility, fast pace and multiple priorities
  • Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills
  • Passion for education reform and the belief that every child can succeed
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP DC’s mission and to advancing its anti-racist ambition through their work with staff, students, alumni, and families
  • Mastery of Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
  • Experience with PowerSchool is a plus

KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:

  • The anticipated starting salary for this position is $84,179-$103,984. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.
  • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
  • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
  • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
  • As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support, and this position will regularly provide on-site support to school teams, frequently partner with other headquarters teams, or regularly work in multiple locations. Because of the nature of the work, this role allows for occasional flexibility. This role will have approximately 20% flexibility to work remotely.
