The University of Southern Maine’s Athletic Department is seeking applicants for their full-time, 10-month, Associate Head Athletic Trainer position. The University seeks candidates with leadership and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of student athletes. Athletics is an important and exciting part of student life at USM. The Associate Head Athletic Trainer will:
• Provide comprehensive care for intercollegiate student athletes including preventive and emergency care, initial evaluation and management, rehabilitation and return to sport.
• Complete appropriate referrals and educational counseling relating to the student-athlete’s overall wellness.
• Collaborate with the sports medicine team, department and university staff and healthcare professionals within the community.
• Maintain appropriate injury and illness records and other medical documentation. • Travel with intercollegiate teams when appropriate.
• Complete administrative responsibilities which will be assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer/Athletic Healthcare Administrator.
• Assist in supervision of other staff Athletic Trainers and student employees.
• Provide clinical instruction, supervision, and proficiency evaluation of athletic training majors pursuing a Master of Science degree in Athletic Training.
This is a full-time 10-month (mid-August – June) position with an annual salary up to $48,000 commensurate with experience. This position is located on our Gorham Campus.

Required Qualifications:
• Degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE accredited institution. • Minimum of five years professional experience in Athletic Training (may include post-professional graduate school experience)
Licenses/Certifications: • BOC (Board of Certification) Certification • State of Maine Athletic Training license (must obtain by appointment date) • Maintain Preceptor role in Athletic Training Education • Emergency Cardiac Care Certification • American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED Instructor Certification or ability to obtain within the first year of employment.
