Associate Principal for Instruction

Primary Purpose:

The Associate Principal for Instruction is responsible for providing leadership in all school building leadership operations related to the instructional program including: curriculum development, research, and assessment; career and technological educational programs; recruitment, appraisal, and retention of teachers; development of the master schedule, implementation of interventions for students not meeting learning standards, selection of texts and materials; and the professional development of the certified staff.

Qualifications:

The Associate Principal for Instruction must have a substantial academic and experiential background that will enable them to support the Building Principal in the role of leading and administering the school. The Associate Principal for Curriculum and Instruction must at a minimum hold a master’s degree in Education Administration or equivalent, and a valid Texas endorsement issued by the SBEC.

  1. Assist the principal in the administration and supervision of the school at all times.
  2. Assume responsibility for the students, professional staff, classified personnel, building, and facilities when the principal is out of the building.
  3. Assist the principal in the selection and assignment of teachers and staff.
  4. Supervise and evaluate non-tenured and tenured professional staff using the approved appraisal process.
  5. Mentor new and emerging leaders among the faculty.
  6. Be a contributing member of the school Administrative Team and Leadership Team.
  7. Lead and serve on Ad Hoc Committees as needed.
  8. Participate in the process of supporting all aspects of a district-wide guaranteed and viable curriculum.
  9. Obtain, interpret, and prepare data to assist the principal, department chairs, and professional staff.
  10. Assume a major role, along with the principal, department heads, and teachers in all facets of curriculum research, development, and implementation.
  11. Oversee the development and delivery of career and technical education programs that incorporate district goals and support student achievement.
  12. Develop and maintain effective partnerships with employers in the community to provide program enhancements and on-the-job training opportunities for career and technical education students.
  13. Monitor and reevaluate career and technical education programs on an ongoing basis using input from community employers, teachers, and principals, applied research, and student data to determine effectiveness and improve outcomes. Recommend changes and adjustments to the program where appropriate to meet changing job markets, student, and community needs.
  14. Plan and provide staff development for career and technical education teachers that supports instructional programs, incorporates input from teachers and principals, and is consistent with the district’s mission.
  15. Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback to career and technical education teachers to facilitate instructional improvement and innovation.
  16. Provide oversight and support for ongoing major curricular changes.
  17. Approve outside speakers for curricular-related presentations.
  18. Coordinate and plan opening-of-the-school activities.
  19. Lead New Teacher Induction Week and subsequent New Teacher Training Sessions through first semester.
  20. Develop staffing projections based upon registration information and district parameters. Prepare a report regarding staffing recommendations for the Superintendent and the Board of Education.
  21. Develop the Master Schedule and supervision assignments for certified staff.
  22. Organize and oversee standardized testing, including but not limited to STAAR, TSI, and Advanced Placement testing.
  23. Coordinate the school improvement planning and implementation process.
  24. Coordinate special programs including but not limited to: Title I, sixth year math, and STRIVE.
  25. Supervise and oversee placement of student teachers and teacher interns.
  26. Oversee faculty professional learning teams within our Professional Learning Community structure.
  27. Oversee student grade processing and progress reports.
  28. Compile data and coordinate the completion of required reports including the School Report Card.
  29. Other responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
