Job Summary
The Associate Product Owner, Strategic Commercial Initiatives will be a critical member of a high-performing cross-functional team of digital and commercial operations leaders working towards an ambitious 5-year vision to transform the commercial experience at Charles River. Their primary goal will be to represent the interests of our product users and stakeholders to the product development team and work closely with the Data Product Owner and Technical Product Owners to deliver short- and long-term team goals for the digital commercial product portfolio. Other key activities will involve leading innovation and change management among members of the commercial team (our users) and commercial team leaders (stakeholders). With the Data Product Owner, the Associate Product Owner oversees product delivery, contributes key voice of the customer input and influences strategic decision making for the portfolio, and communicates to those in the organization necessary to help manage the product backlog, provide requirements, and manage priorities for future product development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Contribute to the Agile product development process as an extension of the Product Owner for a growing portfolio of Digital products in use by the Charles River commercial organization
• Serve as a voice of the customer for commercial user personas and customers
• Provide requirements and direction to the Agile development team to support product delivery
• Contribute to prioritization of product backlog items based on user desirability, business value, data availability/quality, technical feasibility, risks and dependencies
• Craft user stories of sufficient detail to enable implementation by the development team; play an active role in mitigating impediments and provide user and business context to development team as they work to implement user stories
• Contribute to setting clearly defined short- and mid-term goals that are aligned with business needs and Product strategy; craft appropriate features and stories in support of those for assigned products within the portfolio; measure team progress and communicate progress and risks to Product Owners
• Identify opportunities for business integration in the application and effectively accelerate those opportunities; support user adoption and enablement; measure and report on user adoption to report on the ROI of features
• Research and analyze market, users, and the roadmap for the product; work with internal and external customers to identify and analyze their needs, identify challenges, or pain points, help them mitigate risk and accelerate their workflows
• Possess a fundamental understanding of end-to-end internal and external customer journey and needs across the CRL portfolio
• Represent team in front of stakeholders, clients, or users.
• Follow our competitors and the industry.
• Keep abreast with product delivery best practices and new trends, including understanding of security practices
Job Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in biological science, marketing, computer science or related field.
- Experience: 5+ years’ experience in a software/digital product role; prior experience with commercial team enablement or life science applications on an enterprise scale is a plus. Understanding of agile product development methodologies and frameworks. Experience in collecting requirements, building roadmaps, setting, and achieving deliverable goals. Experience working across and supporting various teams.

Compensation Data
The pay range for this position is $96K – $130K USD. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location
