Simon and Schuster is seeking creative & high-energy Associate Publicist or Publicist for the Simon & Schuster Books Group, concentrating on work for the Saga Press imprint. This person will create and execute publicity campaigns for books within the fantasy, science fiction, and horror genres. Interest in one or more of these genres is a must, although direct work experience is not a key requirement.

Saga Press has created a prestigious roster of established and emerging authors, and an innovative list of bestselling, award-winning books. The imprint publishes within the fantasy, science fiction, and horror genres, and the liminal spaces in-between. Some of the roster of authors include Peter S. Beagle, Chloe Gong, Charlaine Harris, Stephen Graham Jones, Ken Liu, Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone, Rebecca Rohanhorse, and R.A. Salvatore.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement title-specific publicity campaigns for frontlist titles.
• Attend all Saga Press planning meetings with editorial, sales, etc.
• Create marketing materials such as press releases, pitches, Q&As.
• Pitch and secure top national and local media, including print, broadcast and online outlets, with a focus on genre tastemakers, such as: arranging cover reveals and excerpts, author interviews and round-ups with key fantasy, horror and sci-fi media outlets and bloggers.
• Develop and maintain account, big mouth and influencer mailing lists, and build strong relationships with key media, by scheduling seasonal pitch meetings/calls with SFF-focused media contacts (as well as title pitching).
• Build strong relationship with Saga Press authors to ensure involvement and participation in marketing and publicity efforts.
• Plan and coordinate author book tours, and book local area events.
• Secure speaking/signing opportunities at Comic-Cons and SFF-focused conferences around the country.
• Work closely with S&S marketing and digital marketing team to feature Saga titles. Support Saga Press social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Instagram) including content planning, execution and posting as well as fan, author and media amplification/engagement.
• Coordinate seasonal submissions of upcoming publishing calendars and SFF-focused literary awards.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• 3+ years relevant publicity or marketing experience
• Experience in and/or passion for science fiction, fantasy and horror
• Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication and presentation skills
• Possess existing relationships with national and local media
• Experience creating and executing highly successful title-based media campaigns
• Demonstrated booking and author tour management skills
• Established network of broadcast, print and digital contacts
• Must have good time management skills, be organized and detail-oriented, and capable of multi-tasking
• Have the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and work independently and demonstrate good follow-up and follow-through.
• Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple projects and work flexibly and quickly

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The annual salary for this position is $54,000.00 – $64,000.00

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
