Why does the job exist?
Provide direct legal service to both the Office of Regulatory Affairs and the EMNRD Energy Conservation and Management Division on legal matters related to electricity development, energy infrastructure, and United States Department of Energy regulations regarding conservation grants to states including state statutes related to Renewable Energy Production Tax Credits, sustainable building tax credits, agricultural biomass income tax credit, new solar market development tax credit, and the geothermal ground-coupled heat pump tax credit. Additionally, the position will provide legal advice and representation on energy issues before the NM Public Regulatory Commission, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Renewable Energy Trasmission Authority, and other state’s electricity regulators where there is a New Mexico nexus.

The position provides legal advice, counseling, and support to EMNRD’s Office of Regulatory Affairs and Energy Conservation and Management Division, the Office of the General Counsel, and EMNRD leadership.

This job supports EMNRD, Office of Regulatory Affairs, Energy Conservation and Management Division and their staff on the laws and regulations governing electricity and energy development in New Mexico.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
* Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law.
* Five (5) years’ experience in the practice of law.
* Must be licensed as an attorney by the Supreme Court of New Mexico, or is qualified to apply for a
public employment limited practice license (Rules 15-301.1) or Admission by Motion (Rules 15-107).
Minimum Qualification
Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law and five (5) years of experience in the practice of law. Must be licensed as an attorney by the Supreme Court of New Mexico or qualified to apply for limited practice license (Rules 15-301.1 and 15-301.2 NMRA). Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
