Description of Job

THIS IS A SPONSORED POSITION TO AN ACCREDITED POLICE ACADEMY. THE AURARIA CAMPUS POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL PAY FOR ALL COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE ARAPAHOE COMMUNITY COLLEGE POLICE ACADEMY, AND PAY THE SALARY FOR SELECTED APPLICANTS.

The Sponsored Positions are open from 06/08/2023 – 06/15/2023. If you apply and your application passes the initial review, you will be invited to participate in a Physical Agility Assessment on Tuesday June 20th along with your completed PHQ. The assessment consists of a timed 1.5-mile run to be completed in under 15 minutes and 20 seconds, followed by 18 push-ups and 27 sit-ups to be completed in under 60 seconds each. If you pass the physical assessment, you will be invited to take a POST administration skills assessment that will take approximately 1 hour to complete. After that, there will be an in-person interview with our Police department.

This position is located in the Auraria Campus Police Department. The Auraria Campus Police Department provides the full spectrum of Law Enforcement services (emergency, non-emergency, technical and communications support) to the Auraria Campus Community as State of Colorado Peace Officers.

This position requires rotating shift work. You must be willing and able to work shift work.
Duties of the Position:
The Police Officer in training position responds to a variety of civil matters as well as enforces applicable local, state, and federal laws. Duties include, writing reports; performing preliminary investigations; collecting evidence; responding to various alarms; detecting and arresting wrongdoers; and community policing activities. The Auraria Campus Police Department employs various policing methods including foot, bike and vehicle patrol. Additionally, officers perform crowd management functions at a large number of special events.

This position is also required to participate in ongoing training in a variety of law enforcement practices and techniques. Police Officers at AHEC must qualify in firearms proficiency on a quarterly basis. Police Officers in training are training officers and require a satisfactory completion of a training period before advancing to an Officer I with one year experience.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Minimum Qualifications:
– One year of college coursework (30 semester hours). Please attach your college transcripts (must be submitted with application).

Substitutions:
– One year of law enforcement patrol experience will substitute for the one year of college coursework.
Necessary Special Requirements:
– Must be at least 21 years of age; possess a valid Colorado Driver License, and
NO:
– Felony Convictions
– Domestic Violence Convictions
– Acquiring more than seven points in the last year and/or more than 12 points within the last two years on a driver’s license.
– Alcohol/drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and repeat alcohol/drug convictions after the age 18 within the last then (10) years.

Conditions of Employment:
– The selected applicant must be willing to sign a contract that allows the Auraria Police Department to seek reimbursement of the cost of the Law Enforcement Academy if the employee terminates employment in less than two (2) years from the completion of the Auraria Police Department FTO program.
– The applicant must successfully pass a physical agility and written exam. Both of these exams will be scheduled at a later date. Candidates will be notified of location for physical agility testing and written examination prior to test date.
– Positions require a personal and employment background investigation which may include polygraph interview, fingerprint check and drug screen.
– The Background Investigation is part of the exam process. The policy of Auraria Police Services is to apply uniform standards of integrity and conduct to all employees without regard to assignment within the agency. Candidates must pass the minimum employment standards for Police Officers to continue in the examination and interviewing process.
– After a conditional offer of employment is made, each prospective employee will be required to submit to physical and psychological examinations by a doctor or health care facility which is selected or approved by the Auraria Police Services in order to determine whether or not a prospective employee can perform the essential functions of the job. Failure to pass the physical and/or psychological evaluation will result in removal from this employment list.
