Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

$146,200.00 – $241,300.00

What Is the Opportunity?

This role will lead the Internal Communications team dedicated to corporate Legal Services and highly visible corporate initiatives, including Sustainability and our Citizen Travelers nonpartisan civic engagement initiative. This is a senior-level manager who will build a team and act as a player-coach who both develops communications strategies/plans and executes with the team on the deliverables.

What Will You Do?

  • Oversee the development and implementation of strategies to directly advance objectives and priorities for Legal Services, Sustainability, employee civic engagement and related projects.
  • Provide strategic counsel to the respective leaders of these initiatives and ensure that internal communications strategies support business objectives and reinforce Travelers’ culture and character.
  • Engage audiences with extremely strong writing and creative communications techniques.
  • Recruit and manage a team of internal communications professionals. Develop the team and expertise in their role as business partners, trusted advisors and strategic communicators.
  • Adhere to Travelers’ high ethical standards and ensure the team does the same.
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with colleagues across the company, including close working relationships with Marketing and others to create alignment.
  • Ensure that strategic key messages are integrated into internal communications related to the initiatives.
  • Create an innovative culture and environment where piloting new ideas is welcome.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of business strategies and build innovative business-based concepts into communications approaches and materials.
  • Leverage established internal communications best practices and Travelers’ various communications vehicles and channels for maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Comply with approval processes and brand guidelines for the development of communications materials.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications through qualitative and quantitative methods. Review recommended changes and implement as appropriate.
  • Manage expenses to ensure that the most cost-effective methods are used while meeting the internal corporate initiatives leader’s needs.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • 15 years of experience in corporate communications or a related field.
  • Minimum of four years’ management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or communications preferred
  • Superior judgment in an environment with substantial latitude to act.
  • Strong communication and client services skills, with goal of solidifying trusting and productive relationship with senior leaders.
  • Thorough knowledge of various communications techniques.
  • Advanced writing and editing skills, with ability to adapt to a full array of audiences.
  • Advanced ability to think big and develop creative plans for highly visible campaigns and defined objectives.
  • Advanced ability to interact with and influence senior leaders.
  • Advanced interpersonal (verbal and written) and presentation skills (with strong effectiveness presenting to senior leaders).
  • Advanced ability to effectively oversee complex communications projects and lead others to deliver on projects.

What is a Must Have?

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications or minimum of 8 years of related communications experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of management experience.
