Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
As an Assistant Vice President (AVP), UW Portfolio Management, you will leverage your deep underwriting and industry expertise to lead the Inland Marine and Property lines of business to ensure underwriting philosophy and practices are consistent with Construction, Energy and Marine (CEM) business goals. You will lead the development and implementation of underwriting, product, and operational business strategies to support the achievement of underwriting and production goals for these lines.
What Will You Do?
- Responsible for articulating strategy needs for the lines of business rate adequacy, product and pricing for CEM on a countrywide basis.
- Participates in the development of strategic business planning activities to ensure underwriting philosophy, strategy needs, rate adequacy, pricing model and coverage needs meet BU goals.
- Identifies trends and emerging issues. Monitors underwriting results for the line of business or segment and partners with underwriting and field management to act as needed.
- May drive underwriting strategy for a line/segment based on sound analysis of financial trends, territorial needs, and marketplace dynamics.
- Partners with BI Learning & Development, CUOs and Industry Team to develop and manage the training curriculum for the lines of business
- Liaison and Business Representative to cross functional areas including, but not limited to BI Product, Actuarial, Business Capabilities Office (Market Business Representative)
- Subject matter expert for portfolio CUREs
- Keeps underwriting and product guidelines current, relevant, and organized in UGuide. Communicates updates.
- Participate in Product Modernization efforts in concert with the Business Capabilities Office and all practices/BUs in CEM.
- Field underwriting support for field questions, manuscript endorsements, transactional underwriting, and emerging line of business trends
- May collect and analyze claim data to determine if claim initiatives are aligned with product line strategy.
- May prepare findings and analyze data in support of the company’s position on the assigned product to respond to requests from regulators or state/national agencies.
- May conduct training for UPDPs or other employees. May provide counsel and guidance to field staff on product specific issues.
- Perform ad hoc project work and other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Ten or more years of property and casualty commercial underwriting experience.
- Expert knowledge of underwriting coverages, processes, and risk analysis.
- Strong data analysis skills with the ability to leverage observed trends in portfolio management strategies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence various audiences across the enterprise.
- Strong relationship building skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external partners.
- Advanced leadership skills with the ability to coach and develop team members, leverage differences, and strategically align resources to accomplish key objectives.
What is a Must Have?
- Six years of property and casualty insurance experience.
