Job Summary
The responsibilities of the Director State Regulatory for PSEG Long Island include management of the state legal regulatory team to advise and represent PSEG Long Island, as agent for LIPA, in regulatory proceedings before state regulators including the NYS Department of Public Service and NYISO . Drive processes to help ensure compliance with state regulatory requirement s , to support PSEG Long Island’s strategic business pla n , and to identify and creatively address potential legal issues/concerns . This position reports to the Vice-President Legal.
Job Responsibilities
- Advise and represent PSEGLI as agent for LIPA in regulatory proceedings before the NYS Department of Public Service and NYISO
- Support the rate, state regulatory, regulatory operation and compliance functions at the state level for PSEGLI as agent for LIPA, including coordinating responses to Freedom of Information Requests
- Lead the preparation and processing of regulatory and rate proceedings at state agencies, predominantly as the lead counsel and support PSEG Long Island to align with the policies of state regulatory agencies and minimize impacts of state regulation on development and implementation of business strategies
- Advocate for appropriate state regulatory rules and policies to support the PSEGLI/LIPA interests
- Keep management apprised of developments, risks , and opportunities in covered regulatory functions
- Work closely with other PSEGLI functions including Finance and External Affairs on state legislative and advocacy matters
Job Specific Qualifications
Required:
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
Minimal of 8 years of New York regulatory experience leading utility rate cases and other complex regulatory matters
Licensed to practice in the state of NY and the ability to obtain relevant bar admissions as necessary
Proven experience delivering results
Excellent ability to building and maintaining relationships with state regulatory agencies based on trust, integrity and respect
Demonstrated negotiation skills in complex multi-party negotiations
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Professionalism, integrity, and excellent customer/client focus, team player capable of handling matters with minimal supervision, ability to work with and advise members of senior management.
Valid US Driver’s License
Desired:
10 years or more experience in New York state regulatory practice
Experience advising senior management and/or board of directors regarding regulatory matters
Working with and using data to identify trends, manage costs and efficiencies and improve outcomes
Strong relationships with key stakeholders
