Under the direction of the Aztec Recreation Member Services and Operations Manager, the Operations Supervisor assists with the supervision of the Aztec Recreation facility operations. The Operations Supervisor ensures a safe, enjoyable and professional operation of the recreation facilities by supporting and enforcing the rules and regulations. The Supervisor is responsible for various aspects of facility operations including daily operations, risk management, policies and procedures, scheduling and event planning, facility access software, facility and equipment inspections, development and implementation of safety training, and assessment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Functions

  • Assists with the daily facility supervision of Aztec Recreation facilities
  • Coordinates recreation facilities reservations scheduling with EMS and Musco systems
  • Ensures fitness classes, Sport Club activities, Intramural Sports, and/or other programs/events are scheduled so they do not overlap or conflict with outside groups
  • Coordinates all special events for recreation facilities, including scheduling reservations, collecting contracts, payments and required insurance verification, scheduling event staffing, managing event operations and supervising large events
  • Supervises operations and event staff and assists with supervision of member services staff
  • Assists with development of recreation facility rental policies and rates
  • Coordinates, posts and maintains web information and both print and digital signage for Aztec Recreation facility hours, closures and rules
  • Assists with coordination of Fusion facility access software management
  • Assists with the ongoing evaluation of the Aztec Recreation facilities, including completing participant evaluations, focus groups, informal discussions and written program surveys
  • Completes regular facility, safety and fitness equipment inspections
  • Assists with fitness equipment purchases and equipment warranty management
  • Coordinates with building services staff for reported facilities and equipment repairs
  • Assists with scheduling and on site supervision for external vendors
  • Assists with communication with janitorial services and completes inspections to ensure scope of work is completed as scheduled
  • Assists with creation and implementation of student development and leadership training opportunities for Aztec Recreation part-time staff
  • Conducts safety and risk management training for staff
  • Coordinates CPR/AED and First Aid training for staff
  • Assists with annual inventory review and fixed asset documentation updates
  • Assists with daily incident report review and conduct investigations
  • Assists with the development, planning, coordination and management of informal recreation opportunities for Aztec Recreation participants
  • Leads operations for large annual department promotional events (ARC Til Dark, Live Well Late Night, New Student Orientations, etc.) and other special events

Minimum Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum & Preferred Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Physical Education, Recreation, Kinesiology/Exercise Science, Health or a related field
  • Master’s Degree preferred

Experience:

  • Must have at least one year of direct supervisory experience with facilities in a collegiate/community fitness, recreation or health club setting

Licenses & Certification:

  • American Red Cross AED, CPR and First-Aid certification required (within the first 30 days of hire)
  • American Red Cross AED, CPR and First-Aid instructor certification preferred

Trainings:

  • Must complete Gender Awareness, Computer Security, and Sexual Harassment Prevention for Supervisors trainings within 30 days of hire

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Must have strong English language skills and the ability to read, write and verbally communicate at a level appropriate to the duties of the position
  • Ability to operate personal computer, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn and utilize new software programs
  • Thorough knowledge of methods, tools and equipment necessary for the repair, alteration, maintenance and operation of buildings and facilities
  • Working knowledge of building, fire, OSHA and life safety codes and regulations
  • Ability to read, write and work from sometimes-complex blueprints, diagrams and operation and equipment manuals
  • Well organized, ability to effectively multi-task, ability to prioritize work, problem solve, make decisions and meet scheduled deadlines under pressure
  • Must be self-motivated, self-starter and perform with minimal direction and supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to relate and communicate effectively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, colleagues and guests
  • Ability to present a consistent positive approach to students and all internal and external contacts by being courteous, respectful, helpful and cooperative at all times
  • Commitment to a high standard of safety and ability to communicate and train safety policies and procedures to staff
  • Ability to interpret and communicate policies and procedures

COMPENSATION

  • Range: $21.79 – $24.52 per hour

SCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a full-time position. Flexibility and willingness to work long and irregular hours and days, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed by event schedule.
