Job Description
Johnson County Mental Health is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of a full time with benefits, Behavioral Health Specialist for the Crisis Recovery Center & Adult Detox Unit in Shawnee, KS. This position is responsible for a variety of functions to help support this 24-hour program, providing integrated services to adults suffering from severe mental illness and substance use disorders. Job functions include crisis intervention, support, monitoring and prompting for activities of daily living. Job will remain posted until filled.
The schedule for this position will be Thursday – Monday 8 am -4 pm. This position is eligible for a shift differential specific to overnight hours($1.50/hr), weekend hours ($0.75/hr), and evening hours ($0.75/hr).
Job duties include:
- Provides, assists with, or coaches individuals on personal care needs with limited supervision; provides crisis interventions (including evidence based practices to maintain the safety of individuals); monitors youth interactions and behaviors; monitors medication administration as prescribed; monitors and documents mental and physical condition of individuals.
- Teaches, coaches and provides guidance and support on various skills to enable productive lives of individuals; assists youth with managing their emotions, assists and supports individual treatment/recovery goals and assist youth in developing positive coping skills; develops and maintains a positive and effective relationship with service recipients, families, and other service providers.
- Organizes and participates in meetings related to care coordination; completes documentation for direct services provided to ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Transports individuals receiving services to appointments, activities, and/or work.
Job Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent and one year of experience working in a human services field are required. A valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record is preferred.
Education can substitute for experience.
Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments/agencies in a declared emergency situation.
