Position Information

The Department of Health Services (DHS) is currently seeking highly motivated and detail- oriented individuals to join their team as Account Clerk IIs, with multiple bilingual (English/Spanish) positions available!

Full-time, Part-time, and Extra-Help positions currently available!

Starting salary up to $31.75/hour ($66,266/year) plus a competitive total compensation package, and an additional $1.50/hour for fluent bilingual positions and $1.15/hour for basic bilingual positions!*

About the Positions

As an Account Clerk II, you are primarily responsible for reviewing and adjusting transactions and accounts, screening documents for accuracy and adherence to requirements, and authorizing payments in compliance with established procedures, regulations, and record-keeping practices. Depending on the assignment, the Account Clerk II may also be responsible for:

  • Processing and recording financial transactions
  • Performing data entry and maintaining accurate records
  • Providing excellent customer service, including answering phone calls from clients and assisting with questions
  • Sorting and processing mail, creating letters, forms, reports, memos, and notices

The ideal candidates will possess:

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Experience performing high-level customer service duties and managing a high volume of calls in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word applications
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills

Sonoma County Animal Services
One full-time basic bilingual (English/Spanish) position and one extra-help basic bilingual (English/Spanish) position. The Account Clerk II is the first point of contact for our clients, answering phone calls related to dog licensing, returning animals to their owners, and assisting officers in the field with Spanish-speaking clients.Behavioral Health DUI Program
One part-time fluent bilingual (English/Spanish) position. As the Account Clerk II, you will provide billing support services to program clients including payment processing, arrangements, financial assessments, billing statements, and corrections. Additionally, you will field calls related to billing clients and answer questions regarding the DUI Program clients and their accounts.

These bilingual positions require English and Spanish skills at the basic (conversational) and fluent (reading, writing, and conversational) levels. Applicants who wish to be considered for these bilingual positions must indicate their level of skill in the required supplemental questionnaire. An examination will be conducted prior to employment in a bilingual position to confirm the level of skill in this area. Bilingual premium pay is $1.15/hour for basic bilingual skills and $1.50/hour for fluent bilingual skills.

EXTRA-HELP EMPLOYMENT

Extra-help employees relieve or augment permanent staff. Temporary, extra-help employees are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most employee benefits such as long-term disability insurance coverage; accrual of vacation; participation in the County retirement program; or eligibility to take promotional examinations. Temporary, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of one calendar year. These employees must be off of work for three months before they can be re-employed on an extra help basis. Extra-help employees who meet the eligibility requirements may qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage.

The employment list established from this recruitment may also fill other full-time, part-time, and extra-help English or bilingual positions that may occur during the active status of the employment list. Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education, training, and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. Normally, this would include completion of 12 semester units or 16 quarter units in accounting, record keeping, business math, or a closely related field.

OR

One year of full-time experience which includes the review, processing, and maintenance of fiscal transactions and accounts, or statistical data and records.

License: Possession of a valid driver’s license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of: methods, practices, and terminology used in financial and statistical clerical work, including working knowledge of costs and budgetary accounting principles; modern office policies, regulations, and procedures related to account or statistical records maintained; basic arithmetic to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and percentages; modern office methods and procedures; database, spreadsheet, and word processing applications.

Ability to: review and work with tabular detail such as codes, figures, and numbers; make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; use and understand common database, spreadsheet, and word processing applications; operate office equipment such as adding machines, calculators, and computers; review, code, post, balance, adjust, and summarize fiscal transactions or statistical data; maintain and reconcile related records; prepare final reports and statements; follow oral and written instructions; write neatly and legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; type accurately.
