  • Salary range: $56,160.00 to $64,585.00 per year(how we pay and promote)

Responsibilities

  • Provides research, writing, and copy-editing services.
  • Assists in the production and dissemination of science and public health documents and publications.
  • Write blogs, articles, press releases, and publications, and under the direction of your supervisor
  • Propose ideas for new content for our clients that align with the organization’s priority areas and mission.
  • Edit materials with technical accuracy, grammar, punctuation, internal consistency, and other metrics as defined on a project basis
  • Format documents in MS Word styles
  • Simplify complex materials for effective presentation to a target audience and translates complex scientific jargon to technically accurate plain language.
  • Utilize best practices for writing /editing such as: maintaining continuity of style, voices, and complies with style guides.
  • Perform other duties as associated with the core functions of the role

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in writing, communications, science or health
  • 2 years of experience in science/health writing and content development
  • 5 years of writing experience

Basic Requirements

  • Ability to translate technical scientific content in plain language
  • Ability to work with virtual teams (use of intranet and instant messenger to communicate)
  • Ability to perform editing of complex technical documents and plain language content
  • Ability to edit materials as directed to meet client needs
  • Excellent grammatical/punctuation skills
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word
  • Ability to work productively and collaboratively in SharePoint or Teams to accomplish tasks

Skills That Set You Apart

  • Additional certifications in writing or editing
  • Experience with making publications 508 compliance
  • Experience with federal government contracting, especially NIH or other biomedical research organizations
  • Strong working knowledge of references such as the GPO, AMA, and Chicago style manuals
