Summary
The Branch Chief manages the operations of the Courtroom Support Branch to ensure that the branch operates efficiently. The Branch Chief makes certain staff are properly trained and supervised to fulfill the mandated obligations of providing administrative support to judicial officers in the courtroom. The Branch Chief manages and provides support to 42 Courtroom Clerks and two Supervisors.

Duties
Brief Description of Major Duties:
- Manages the operations of the Courtroom Support Branch of the Criminal Division.
- Provides leadership and guidance to the assigned work force.
- Plans, formulates, and administers programs designed to accomplish the branch’s functions.
- Evaluates policies, procedures, practices, etc., and makes recommendations for use in improving their effectiveness.
- Identifies and addresses training and development needs of the staff.
- Consults with specialists on training needs, and decides on training problems related to the branch as needed.
- Plans, develops, evaluates, and researches programs as necessary for the accomplishment of special projects assigned by the division chief.
- Collaborates with managers of the other divisions to coordinate mutual work-related programs and objectives.
- Evaluates supervisors and reviews evaluations made by supervisors on other employees.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree plus five (5) years of experience in a general office, legal office, or court office setting, including experience with applicable Superior Court Rules of Criminal Procedures, which two (2) years of experience must include courtroom experience; and a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a supervisor.
Graduation from the DC Court’s Management Training Program may be substituted for one (1) year of supervisory experience. You must provide documentation of your management training (i.e. copy of certificate) with your application.
Education Substitution:
A master’s degree plus four (4) years of experience in a general office, legal office, or court office setting, including experience with applicable Superior Court Rules of Criminal Procedures; and a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a supervisor.
A law degree plus three (3) years of experience in a general office, legal office, or court office setting, including experience with applicable Superior Court Rules of Criminal Procedures; and a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a supervisor.

Annual Leave: New full-time employees earn four (4) hours of annual leave biweekly. After three years of service this increases to six (6)hours biweekly, and at 15 years it increases to eight(8)hours biweekly. Most military, federal and District of Columbia government service counts toward the time required to go into the next higher annual leave category. Employees can carry over no more than 240 hours of annual leave into the next leave year.
Sick Leave is used for personal medical needs, care of a family member, or adoption related purposes. Full-time employees earn four(4)hours of sick leave biweekly. This leave can be accrued without limit.
In addition to the federal health plans, the DC Courts offer employees supplemental vision and dental plans as well as a commuter transit benefit subsidy, for a maximum of $150 a month. There are 26 pay periods in the year.
