Lee County is searching for a highly skilled and experienced individual to work in our Facilities and Management department as a Senior Trades Worker. This position is responsible for performing building checks, and monitoring building controls and must be able to effectively communicate during normal and emergency situations. The ideal candidate will have a strong HVAC/building automation controls skill set and experience relating to all facets of building maintenance, such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responds to requests received through work order and complete requests in a timely manner.
  • Procuring parts as required and adhering to security and tool control measures.
  • Walk downtown Lee County Facilities to find and locate any building issues or potential safety concerns.
  • Correctly input detailed work orders as required.
  • Escorts other trades workers, vendors, and/or contractors for necessary building repairs and emergencies that are outside the scope of routine maintenance.
  • Works in a safe manner and recognizes unsafe situations.
  • Takes appropriate action to ensure the safety of themselves and others in buildings,
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Licensing

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and two years of building maintenance experience including plumbing, electrical, and mechanical (HVAC/building automation systems) experience or closely related experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Will be required to undergo a fingerprint-based NCIC background check and must be able to obtain a security clearance from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and will be required to undergo a “fingerprint-based” criminal background check and must be able to obtain security clearance from the State’s Attorney Office in addition to the standard Consumer Report based background check that is required for all conditional offers of employment.

Supplemental Information

  • The work days and hours are Thursday 9:00 pm – 7:00 am, Friday 9:00 pm – 7:00 am, Saturday 7:00 pm – 6:00 am, and Sunday 6:00 pm – 3:00 am. Hours are subject to change and include working nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and days as needed and work overtime and be on call for emergencies.
  • The incumbent is expected to report to work before, during, and after an emergency unless excused by management as the duties performed in the position are essential.
  • Prefer some knowledge of mechanical electronics, HVAC, building automation systems, electrical, carpentry, and other specific skills necessary to perform the required job assignments.
  • Prefer knowledge of standard methods and tools of overall related codes, rules, and regulations plus the ability to work from blueprints and sketches.
  • Prefer the ability to pass a respirator physical and become respirator certified. Any licenses or certifications are helpful.
  • Incumbents must have the ability to climb ladders, scaffold, dig, crawl in tight spaces, reach, stoop, squat, lift 60 pounds, work outside during all seasons, and work in small spaces in extreme temperatures.
