Job Description
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Communications, the PR Manager will be responsible for the development, design and execution of the organization’s external communications and overarching thought leadership platform to ensure the company and its key leaders are positioned as key voices in the field. Additionally, the PR manager will ensure that leaderships’ role in care, support, advocacy, research is clearly communicated externally to national and international audiences, as well as internally.
Through powerful and creative storytelling, the PR manager will partner with the Snr. Director of Global Communications, as well as functional leaders and colleagues across communications to deliver an integrated communications strategy that supports key business priorities, and bring the c-level executive voices to life externally. The individual will be tapped to lead, coordinate, connect dots and manage external communications for appropriate C-Suite members.
Responsibilities will include development and execution of strategies supporting external and executive communications, including pitching media outlets, engaging with reporters and journalists, identifying traditional and trending opportunities that carve a path for leadership positioning, mining for and securing platforms and thought leadership opportunities, narrative development, key message and speech writing, development of presentations and briefing materials, and staffing for external appearances, scripts, etc.
Principal Duties
• In partnership with the Snr Director of Global Communications, develop and implement strategies to proactively position our brand, leaders and experts in ways that advance our mission and strategic objectives
• Spearhead external communications activities to drive executive presence and efforts to advance our leadership narrative. This includes developing earned media strategies and storytelling opportunities for campaigns, specifically around brand reputation, thought leadership programs and real-time news events that lead to ongoing, positive brand mentions
• Work closely with the leadership team and partners to understand key priorities and focus areas to generate rich external content.
• Partner with the global communications and corporate affairs network to ensure that all communications plans are aligned.
• Establish and maintain relationships with top-tier media and industry experts, proactively responding to reporter inquiries and guiding the messaging to resonate with these different audiences.
• Liaise with agency partners on a regular basis to create innovative PR programs that help shine a positive light on the company and its leaders, in addition to reaching new audiences who are receptive to our products.
• Support day-to-day media relations responsibilities for the organization and its leadership, including developing a variety of PR and communications materials, such as, press materials, messaging, briefing documents, speeches, press releases/advisories, media pitches, media lists, media backgrounders, contributed articles, op-eds, blog posts and more
• Monitor daily news to identify emerging trends that can create story opportunities relevant to the brand.
• Develop targeted media lists and relevant pitches for breaking news, trending news, and engaging stories and research
• manage ongoing reporting and analysis for PR-related deliverables and content strategies
• Collaborate with internal and external teams across multiple disciplines/practices to successfully manage complex, fast-moving, and unexpected communications challenges.
• Design, create and oversee the distribution of communications across multiple mediums (written, video, audio, in-person, etc.) that influence and engage external audiences.
• Leverage the full resources of Adtalem’s global communications and corporate affairs team
• Lead a variety of projects from conception to completion, on time, on budget, bringing the most impactful ideas to life in the best possible way
• Lead the strategy to identify and secure opportunities for our executive leadership that have the greatest impact toward our objectives and evolves the strategy for ever increasing visibility and impact
• Work closely with the Snr Director of Global Communications and the office of the President and CEO to define the communications cadence and calendar of external communications activities
• Staff the executives and leaders at all communications-related activities as appropriate
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Success in this role will demonstrate itself through the following attributes and skills
• Strong understanding of utilizing earned media strategies to reach specific audiences
• Experience creating and executing media relations plans, as well as compiling media lists
• Background in executive communications and experience working with C-level executives across a matrixed organization.
• Proven ability to develop and implement a communications program that includes executive positioning and drives their external presence in ways that deliver on an organization’s mission and goals
• Outstanding writing and editing skills with experience across all forms of content creation (written, video, etc.) while conveying a consistent voice
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, problem solve, think strategically, connect dots, implement efficiently and affect positive change while maintaining a high level of flexibility, professionalism, client service and integrity
• A highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative with minimal direction, thrives in a dynamic environment and is able to lead cross-functional project teams with high attention to detail
• Curiosity for analytics with the ability to turn a few pieces of data into actionable insights to influence our messaging and media outreach strategy
• Demonstrated metrics driven approach with hands-on experience using analytic and tracking tools for media relations
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, or a related relevant degree.
• At least 8 years of relevant professional experience in media relations & executive communications
• PR agency experience is a must
• Proven experience working with media and a strong portfolio of story placements; Not afraid of making an initial ‘cold call’ to establish new media relationships
• Strong written and verbal communications skills.
• Ability to work on multiple programs or tasks at once under tight deadlines and handle a fast-paced environment
• Experience managing issues and crisis communications situations
• Excellent organization and time management skills
• A results-oriented individual with a strong sense of urgency, collaborative attitude, and a demonstrated ability and desire to work independently and confidently, but as part of a team
• Superb critical thinking skills and the ability to take a concept from ideation and strategy to execution autonomously.
• Highly collaborative style and investment in the success of the team and the organization
• Experience leading or working with cross-functional working groups.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.

Additional Information
In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $68637.22 and $124230.14. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
