DESCRIPTION
Temporary Employment Services (TES) places employees in departments that have temporary staffing needs. TES offers a variety of assignments, and an excellent benefits package, as well as opportunities for skill enhancement and exposure to career opportunities at UC San Diego. Hours, salary, and locations vary by assignment. TES has current openings for Building Maintenance Workers (BMW) in various areas around campus.
Expected Assignment Duration: 6 months
Job Duties: Performs semi-skilled tasks independently or as part of a regular maintenance crew. Responsible for the maintenance and repair of buildings and related facilities and equipment using tools of the trade. Tasks include but are not limited to, repairing industrial appliances, disposals, pumps, heating systems, interior/exterior lighting, soldering and pipefitting, furniture and window treatment repair, installation, and replacement, trouble shooting, maintenance, and repair. Responsible for trouble shooting maintenance problems and managing/completing preventative computerized maintenance work orders via MAXIMO and handheld technologies. Provide customer service to all customers through the year. Will be assigned to cover campus buildings and grounds, performing maintenance work. Work may be dispatched by Customer Service Center dispatcher, Central Utilities Plant, and/or maintenance supervisors.
- Perform maintenance and repair on natural gas furnaces
- Visually inspect furnace cabinets for fire hazards
- Soap test all fittings for gas leaks
- Change furnace filter and clean heater cabinets
- Perform maintenance and repair air handlers, exhaust fans, pumps, heat exchangers, pneumatic and electronic controls, AC&R equipment, and associated building equipment
- Install and repair residential plumbing fixtures, water supply lines, valves, traps, and any associated piping.
- Install sinks, disposals, water closets, tanks, and hot water heaters
- Maintain and repair interior and exterior lighting systems
- Repair of transformers and ballast used in fluorescent lighting, walkways and driveway lighting standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrate strong customer service by presenting a professional appearance and effectively communicate with faculty, staff and students in a helpful and respectful manner.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, move, push and pull 50 lbs.
- Knowledge of the construction, painting, plumbing and electrical trades and mechanical and electromechanical systems.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Background checks and DMV CHECK required.
- Position requires a valid CA Drivers License
- Applicants must be able to travel to various UC San Diego locations as needed.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $47,502 – $61,429 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $22.75 – $29.42
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
