Marketing Coordinator

Island Institute is hiring a Marketing Coordinator who will work as a member of the Marketing Team to create and deliver digital content to drive an increase in web sales, in-store shopping, and customer engagement at Island Institute’s Archipelago Store. The coordinator oversees the Archipelago marketing calendar considering all inputs and opportunities for engagement, including co-branding and cross-promotion to Archipelago customers to become Island Institute supporters and vice versa. As capacity allows, this role will also support Island Institute marketing campaigns and operations.

Essential Functions:

This position has responsibilities in 4 key channels used for storytelling, marketing Archipelago products, artists and makers, and awareness of programming all in service to the Island Institute and Archipelago brands.

Archipelago Website:

  • Curates and uploads new items and artists to go online; update or add new items, variants, photos, and descriptions to website regularly; Update Collections and callouts for home page; maintains old items with updated information.
  • Creates and drives content for web products and artists information. This is done by collecting and/or creating images, descriptions, attributes for online content and maintaining the system for organizing such items; Review of Shopify Analytics crucial to understanding online shopping and content.
  • Creates and manages content for storytelling and brand promotional opportunities for artists and product profiles through highlighting stories, seasonal promotions, etc
  • Creates and maintains a list of staff and customer favorite products; communicates with Store Manager to inform ordering re: website sales.

Manages Social Media channels for Archipelago, with eye towards increasing online spending and growing audiences and awareness of Island Institute and Archipelago:

  • Creates content and storytelling pieces on Instagram and Facebook with photos and information about new products received or new vendors, etc. using storytelling approach through appropriate channels with thoughtful frequency.
  • Maintain Sales Channel on Instagram and Facebook.
  • Responsible for interactions with customers on social media on behalf of Archipelago – messages, comments, questions, etc.
  • Promotes Island Institute and Archipelago by seeking out new social media audiences, and engaging with customers, online collaborators/vendors, like organizations and other external audiences.
  • Works with digital marketing consultants on paid digital advertising campaigns and reports to analyze and utilize digital marketing metrics.

Mailing List Eblasts:

  • Collects and creates content from new, favorite and seasonal items in stock; curates’ collections to promote items to new customers, etc.
  • Schedules, formats, and sends eblasts; obtains proper marketing review, in alignment with strategy from Archipelago Director.
  • Content generation is informed by understanding analytics of emails and audiences.
  • Maintains customer lists by updating with Special Order customers, art buyers, newsletter sign-ups and in-store customers.

Print and other online Advertising:

  • Directs creation of ads for print and other advertising by preparing collateral in support of advertising campaigns in magazines and online advertising opportunities; Gather or make images, descriptions, captions, etc. required for content.
  • Supports the Marketing Team as needed with Island Institute digital marketing efforts, including website updates, email marketing support, and social media support.
  • In close coordination with the Marketing Team and Archipelago Director, develops strategies and tactics to increase number of Island Institute members who are Archipelago shoppers and vise versa.
  • Supports and promotes Archipelago events as needed.
  • Uses appropriate and efficient project management tools, like Asana.
  • Seeks and participates in professional development opportunities to build cross sector and essential skills related to roles and responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree, with focus on media/communications, or related field.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a related field.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including using excellent writing, visual, and photography skills in storytelling about artists and makers, creative economy, products and more.
  • Solid experience with and effective use of technology, including social media platforms, email marketing software (Pardot preferred), collaborative project management software (Asana preferred) and Office 365 applications.
  • Demonstrated skills in and experience with graphic design software like In-Design, website design, photo editing software like Photoshop and/or Lightroom; experience creating content on various platforms for various audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience or a portfolio showing use of social media and planned marketing strategies to increase visibility and engagement.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, and organize files, photographs, and other assets.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive and helpful feedback with colleagues.

Base pay for this position is $46,700 with a range that depends on experience and skills related to position responsibilities and qualifications.
