Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to complete daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports and coordinating vehicle maintenance schedules.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Coordinates transportation services for clients.
  • Transports participants to and from the Center, medically related appointments, social service agencies, and special events. Follows established city rules and regulations related to the operation use of the bus.
  • Transports participants to and from City-wide special events and parks and recreation programs.
  • Coordinates the activities of bus drivers. Schedules and assigns work; develops, trains, and evaluates staff; initiates and recommends such personnel actions as hiring, disciplining, counseling, training, etc.
  • Coordinates and attends meetings with staff members to plan programs, identify issues, and improve services/programs.
  • Operate various transportation vehicles, including 12-25 passenger accessible buses and a 78-passenger school bus.
  • Assists participants with entering and exiting the bus and with wheelchairs and walkers.
  • Follows established city rules and regulations related to the operation use of buses.
  • Coordinates vehicle repairs with Fleet Maintenance and maintains repair records.
  • Provides reports on routing, passengers, maintenance, and mileage.
  • Prepares and submits required reports.
  • Compiles scheduling worksheets and maintains records and files for service requests.
  • Drives center vehicles in the absence of bus drivers to maintain scheduled services.
  • Receives and addresses inquiries regarding the center’s transportation program.
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in dispatching or public transportation or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state, CDL Class A or B with Passenger Endorsement and an acceptable driving history.
  • Chauffer’s License required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the safety practices and methods in driving and maintaining vehicles.
  • Knowledge of the Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach geographic areas.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
  • Ability to work from maps.
  • Ability to operate a 78-passenger school bus.
  • Ability to take oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the general public, the elderly populations, and other City employees.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, and to provide accurate reports.
  • Ability to manage inventory.
  • Ability to use small office equipment and computers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Unavoidable hazards refer to job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
    • Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
    • Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.

WORK HOURS
Monday – Friday 8am- 5pm (May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays to meet the business needs of the City.)
