MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of any GED Testing Program required. Candidate must be willing to be trained in non-violent crisis intervention. Employee must have the ability to manage students with disabilities. Experience in special education, first aid, and CPR preferred. A criminal background check is required.
GOAL
Rides the school bus and acts as an aide to the bus driver assisting the students with medical needs and controlling behavior.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicates with the department and schools effectively.
- Maintain a positive attitude toward the job, fellow workers, school staff, students, and parents.
- Rides bus each day to ensure physical and emotional safety of children.
- Understands the operation and correctly physical secures wheelchairs, mobility chairs, child restraint systems and any other adaptive type of equipment required by the students, including walkers, quad canes, crutches, voice boxes, etc.
- Assist with loading and unloading of the students, as well as seating and safety belting of students.
- Perform necessary average lifting up to 50 pounds and can assist in bus evacuations.
- Learns the route to assist a substitute driver.
- Assist driver in keeping appropriate records pertaining to issues that arise on the bus.
- Follows work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner.
- Assist with emergency drills as required. Understands how to operate emergency exits from the bus as well as the lift. Must be prepared to take over an evacuation if the driver is unable to direct the situation.
- Presents a professional appearance.
- Participates in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to the assignment.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and material; adheres to the chain of command.
- Follows federal and state laws, as well as Board policies.
- Perform necessary average lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Operates wheelchair lift and secures door on lift during transport.
- Alert and attentive at all times. Cell phone use is prohibited other than emergency use.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
