The Coworkers of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E’s electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration, and emergency response.

Position Summary

The Business Analyst Expert plans and/or monitors an assigned departments’ annual and/or multi-year work plan portfolio of jobs. Incumbents collaborate with stakeholders to plan and/or track the execution of work related to the overall portfolio by driving the creation of high-quality work plans and/or analyzing the work performance and execution efficiency or work in the portfolio. The Analyst establishes methods to gather data from leadership, finance, project management, operations, and other stakeholders for the portfolio/work plan.

Analysts may utilize customized software and/or ERP systems to manage portfolio/work plan data and may be involved in driving the adoption of new planning systems and related processes cross departmentally. May also be involved in business process improvement, quality control and special projects and other initiatives The incumbents strive to keep the portfolio/work plan balanced with costs and resource availability.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although, we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Annual Minimum: $114,000.00

Annual Maximum: $182,000.00

Job Responsibilities

  • Compiles and analyzes data. May develop and/or maintain data models for what-if analysis and for other business purposes.
  • Applies high level expertise, works independently, and applies breadth and depth of knowledge to the most complex, largest scope and highest impact work planning processes and challenges. May work on both annual and long-term planning issues and projects, and analyze situations with many abstract variables, using a holistic, big picture approach.
  • Develops, influences, and governs planning processes for multiple major work categories in the assigned department. Solves unique and complex problems, anticipating issues and developing innovative solutions.
  • Develops integrated planning methods and systems that have wide ranging impact and application across multiple departments. Oversees the consolidation of information to develop integrated work plans, project updates, and presentation materials for regular department work plan meetings and leadership teams.
  • Works with executives and senior management to support strategic planning, decision making, and to address high level work planning prioritization
  • Leads peers and stakeholders to develop prioritized and optimized long range and/or annual portfolio/work plans for multiple work categories. May oversee forecasting activities and ensure alignment with line of business deadlines. Gains buy-in and confirms plans can be executed with stakeholder organization.
  • Develops appropriate monitoring mechanisms and metrics to understand actuals vs. plan. Prepares regular reports regarding annual and/or long-term work plan/project portfolio completion and issues/metrics. Determines causes of issues and recommends solutions. Presents to senior leadership, Director level or higher.
  • Leads cross-department continuous process improvement efforts to improve efficiencies and quality.
  • Identifies needs, develops ideas, and establishes system requirements for work planning tools. May plan and implement the delivery of user training on systems/tools.
  • Manages major cross-functional projects and initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BS in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering or related discipline or equivalent work experience required.
  • Six (6) years of related work experience such as integrated or strategic portfolio/work planning in an electric utility or related field.

Desired:

  • Advanced qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills, knowledgeable in collecting data, organizing, synthesizing, reporting, recognizing trending and anomalies, drawing conclusions, and developing recommendations.
  • Subject matter expertise in project/work scheduling concepts, methods, and practices.
  • Deep knowledge and expertise of business and/or industry drivers to help influence decision making.
  • Strong financial acumen and capital expense budgeting knowledge.
  • Project management skills to lead large complex projects.
  • Team leadership and effective collaboration skills.
  • Advanced influence and negotiation skills to gain agreement from leaders inside and outside of the department
  • Advanced technical skills using systems and applications such as SAP Work Management, SAP Business Warehouse (BW), Primavera, SQL Server, Excel, Tableau, and PowerPoint to develop reports, analyses, and deliver presentations.
