About Dean of Students – Student Inclusion & Belonging, FIRST@DU

University of Denver (DU). FIRST@DU intends to assist first-generation and low-income students by providing resources, support, and funding to help enrich their experience through pre-orientation, academic workshops, cohort experiences (1GENU, VIP). seminars, events, mentoring, and 4D experience for all first-generation and low-income students.

Position Summary

The Business Coordinator of FIRST@DU will report to the Senior Director of FIRST@DU. FIRST@DU primarily serves first-generation students. The position oversees administrative support and logistics for FIRST@DU supports the Senior Director of FIRST@DU in the execution of their duties and responsibilities to students. The Business Coordinator ensures seamless operation of the Student Inclusion & Belonging suite front desk. The Business Coordinator supports the Senior Director in setting the vision for first-generation and low-income undergraduate and graduate student support through an intersectional approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). This position supervises undergraduate students.

The Business Coordinator will work in deeply collaborative ways with the Senior Director and the FIRST@DU team to: (1) utilize best practices to develop an exemplary first-generation and low-income undergraduate and graduate student experience; (2) build community and assist first-generation students in developing a sense of belonging; (3) support and advocate for first-generation students, and students from a variety of marginalized positionalities; and (4) foster the public good as centrally informed by a commitment to racial, ethnic, cultural, and other social equity outcomes on our campus and beyond.

The Business Coordinator will work evenings and weekends, as needed. This position is a full-time, 1.0 FTE position reporting to the Senior Director of FIRST@DU. This position is funded by a 5 year grant.

This is a gift funded, term position with renewal after the five years contingent upon available funding and/or program development.

Essential Functions

  • Manage front desk operations, and communication for Student Inclusion & Belonging (Grand) Suite and serve as building liaison
  • Provide prompt, thoughtful, and detailed customer service through answering phone calls, assist drop-in clientele and answer general questions and/or forward such questions on to the appropriate person/department
  • Supervise front desk student staff
  • Provide administrative support to the Senior Director and Associate Dean of Students including compiling P-Card package submission of expenses, recording meetings, scheduling appointments
  • Manage administrative functions, including organizing and maintaining FIRST@DU files, and managing office supplies as needed for Student Inclusion & Belonging (SIB) suite.
  • Manage budget for FIRST@DU and cohort programs including working with Advancement and Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence Business Operations and Department Resources
  • Complete end of year scholarship reports and budget reports for cohort programs
  • Support Program Coordinator in managing communication, social media, and website
  • Handle large volume of detailed and confidential information with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Accurately explain University and FIRST@DU, and SIB policies and procedures to students, families, and prospective students
  • Participate in department wide FIRST@DU leadership planning and implementation
  • Partner with departmental leadership on program evaluation and assessment that includes national trends impacting the first-generation students
  • Communicate with university and outside vendors and organizations as necessary for programming
  • Other duties as assigned. In partnership with supervisor, determine additional duties including university, divisional, and area committees.

  • Familiarity with web-based data management and modern office practices and procedures
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook), Zoom, and Qualtrics. Experience with Banner, Slate, Concur, Qualtrics, 25 Live, Crimson Connect would be a plus

Required Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or combination of 3 or more years education and work experience
  • Demonstrative commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Bilingual
  • Experience working with first-generation, minoritized, and other underrepresented college students

Working Environment

1. Standard office environment.
2. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
3. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 6.

Hourly Range:
The hourly range for the position is $20.50-$23.00.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
