Job Description for Business/Data Analyst
Planted Detroit is a vertical hydroponic farm on Detroit’s East Side. At Planted, we grow high quality produce (greens, herbs and microgreens) indoors, utilizing sustainable growing methods and providing our fresh greens to the metro Detroit area. Position Summary:
The Business/Data Analyst role at Planted Detroit is instrumental in revealing and understanding key insights from various data sources across the company. Throughout Planted’s operations, data is being captured that must be reviewed and transformed in order to support various teams’ specific needs. The Business/Data Analyst role will work within the Information Technology Team to focus on capturing the data and decision-making needs of the organization, analyzing the information required to meet those needs, and shaping work efforts to deliver documentation and dashboards that support business decisions. Additional projects and tool developments may be required to unlock more value from Planted Detroit data. The Business/Data Analyst must be able to follow instructions, work efficiently, communicate clearly, and collaborate within a team environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work closely with business leadership to develop and maintain dashboards and other documentation using Agile methods, which will be used in all business functions including but not limited to: labor planning, plant science research and development, controlled environment agriculture technology monitoring, horticulture productivity analysis, product harvest, pack and processing productivity, sales, marketing, food safety, and IT and technology systems.
- Assist in analyzing requests for data and technology, scoping those requests into projects, and prioritizing those projects for completion.
- Work with IT team members to organize, store and back up data within Planted’s storage systems. Periodically review and ensure data is accurate and available for various team projects.
- Work with the IT Team to further enhance the ability of our data capture via new hardware and software technologies. Research existing and new technologies that could be developed and used to enhance Planted’s data analysis program.
- Support the development of standard operating procedures for business processes related to data capture, storage, analysis and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Previous agricultural experience or experience in a related field preferred
- Familiar with MySQL, Python, and Excel
- Exposure to PHP, Javascript, Zoho or other analytics tools
- Access to reliable transportation
Work Environment: Biosecure grow room environment for data capture, testing and experimentation. Office environment for documentation, analysis and reporting work.

Performance in this position will be evaluated by the essential duties, competencies, and requirements, as outlined, with frequency according to Planted policy.
