Business Intelligence Engineer, T&C Strategy and Operations

The AWS Training and Certification (T&C) organization educates customers, partners, and AWS employees on AWS services, products, and solutions. As part of the T&C Business Insights & Analytics team, you will build scalable data and reporting solutions to provide insights into the KPIs and metrics that drive the organization. We are seeking a talented and experienced Business Intelligence Engineer with an experience in building large, complex, and scalable data warehousing and reporting solutions to support the T&C business reporting and metrics. The candidates should have a background in data warehousing (SQL, ETL techniques, data modeling, Redshift, etc.) and business intelligence tools (e.g. QuickSight or Tableau). This role will be a split between building reporting solutions and building large and complex data warehouse layers. You will be working alongside other BI engineers, data engineers, and Business Analysts and be involved from design-to-execution phase. You will be responsible for integrating data from several internal and third-party sources to generate self-serve reporting layers and data insights.

Key job responsibilities

1. Serve as a key member of the AWS Training & Certification Business Insights & Analytics team by supporting all reporting requests from global operations, helping procure new data streams (from both internal and external sources), and ultimately turn data into actionable insights by building meaningful reports.

2. Build and maintain robust enterprise level data warehouse layers and data lakes.

3. Develop self-service data layers that will be used by BIEs, BAs and Data Scientists.

4. Develop and optimize data tables using best practices for partitioning, compression, parallelization, etc.

5. Design robust and scalable data integration (ETL/ELT) pipelines using SQL, Python and AWS services such as Data Pipelines, Glue, Lambda, S3, Athena, Redshift.

6. Interface with business customers, gathering requirements and architect complete reporting solutions

7. Continually improve ongoing reporting and analysis processes, automating or simplifying self-service support for customers

8. Work closely with business owners, analysts, Business Intelligence Engineers to explore new data sources and deliver the data for decision making

A day in the life

This role’s primary focus is working with customers, business analysts, business intelligence engineers, data engineers, and data scientists to deliver business insights, reports, and data warehouse self-serve layers. These insights will be used to make better business decisions. This is a customer facing role where the BIE will meet with customers to understand their data needs and works backwards to develop new data capabilities.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

– 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience

– Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools

– Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

– Experience writing complex SQL queries

– Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab

– Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

– Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift

– Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $79,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
