The Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE) team is a global engineering organization that works directly with customers looking to leverage the latest technologies to address their toughest challenges. We work closely with our customers’ engineers to jointly develop code for cloud-based solutions that can accelerate their organization. We work in collaboration with Microsoft product teams, partners, and open-source communities to empower our customers to do more with the cloud. We develop solutions side-by-side with our customers through collaborative innovation to solve their challenges. This work involves the development of broadly applicable, high-impact solution patterns and open-source software assets that contribute to the Microsoft platform. We are hiring a Business Program Manager with deep experience in managing customer relationships and complex technical projects start to finish. In this role, you will work closely with industry aligned stakeholders and crews of software engineers to scope and track progress of customer and partners engagements. This role allows you to show your executive presence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. As part of the role, you will use your industry and program management experience to contribute to various Microsoft groups, identify trends and patterns and make sure ISE focuses on the most impactful projects. Finally, attention to detail, passion for data driven decisions and collaboration skills are a must.

Qualifications:
Required / Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Operations, Technology or related field AND 6+ years work experience in program management, process management, process improvement
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with or in Engineering organizations and hands-on experience with CI/CD, Azure Cloud, Data Visualization SW and CRM systems
  • Experience working within and directing geographically dispersed, diverse, and virtual teams
  • Enjoy travel and comfortable with regional travel up to 25%

Business Program Management IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,200 – $194,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $142,200 – $213,200 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.

Responsibilities:
Business Program Planning and Design

  • Demonstrates excellent Program Management discipline including experience as Product Owner role and Agile software methodology as well as thought leadership in contributing to overall business goals, objectives, and strategies, as well as short- and long-term business priorities.
  • Understands and identifies current program/project risks, impact, and develops mitigation plans impacting the broader unit.
  • Identifies and scopes opportunities to develop new programs/projects and improve current ones impacting the broader organization.
  • Gathers program/project and business requirements, identifies resource needs, and works across teams to align on the plan of record.
  • Improves the operations of existing programs/projects by applying industry methodology, identifying highly complex program/project issues, assessing various scenarios, and selecting the optimal scenario to resolve those issues.
  • Drives clarity and strives for simplification.
  • Works and leads others who work with cross-functional (e.g., organizational, product, business) stakeholders (e.g., Engineering) to drive highly complex programs/projects from initiation to delivery, independently.
  • Provides expertise to produce collateral (e.g., proposals, strategy walking deck, internal and external pitch content) to incorporate stakeholder needs and ensure the business objectives are clearly communicated and met.

Business Program Excellence and Execution

  • Captures, documents and shares best practices to define and execute on landing communication plans and communication strategy.

Leads others to work across teams (e.g., Engineering, Technical Program Management) to ensure all program/project requirements are understood and can be met.
  • Shares expertise on managing highly complex programs/projects with stakeholders, partners, and customers to gain buy in.
  • Leverages data and performance measurements (e.g., Objectives and Key Results [OKRs] and Key Performance Indicators [KPIs]) to demonstrate the value of the program/project and show business impact.
  • Leads others to adapt communication style and storytelling strategy according to audience and business needs.

Business Program Management

  • Leads a portfolio of projects including the scoped projects, timelines, milestones, financial management, performance metrics, and/or resource needs for highly complex programs/projects.
  • Communicates the program/project status and risk to relevant stakeholders and holds them accountable for following the established schedule, risk mitigation plans, and processes.
  • Establishes objectives and success criteria for the project in an inclusive, collaborative manner with all stakeholders.

  • Leads the synthesis of data analytics (e.g., scenario analyses) to derive insights and key learnings that help identify current and future program/project risks and mitigation plans, as well as opportunities to streamline and optimize programs/projects based on lessons learned that impact the broader unit.
  • Utilizes direction and strategy from leadership to advocate and influence sponsorship regarding business area of expertise to create and execute plans that shift current priorities to new organizational initiatives and objectives, and influences others to change behavior accordingly.
