Pay Range

$86,910 – $129,588 Annually

$86,910 – $107,916Annually at the J01.2 Level

$104,370 – $129,588 Annually at the J01.3 Level

Job Description

We have an opening for a Business Security Specialist to work independently following established procedures to resolve security issues and plan/oversee security activities. This position is within the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Directorate.

This position will be filled at either J01.2 or J01.3 level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team.Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at a higher level.

In this role you will:

  • Resolve security-related issues/inquiries; interpret and provide guidance on DOE Security Orders and Laboratory Policy policies, procedures, guidelines, and manuals. Serve as resource on interpretation of security procedures relating to classified document handling.
  • Serve as the Technical Surveillance and Countermeasures (TSCM) Coordinator for the directorate.
  • Service as the Operational Security (OPSEC) Subject Matter Expert, which would involve OPSEC assessments of WCI facilities and will assist in determining facility/program readiness for foreign national visits.
  • Develop and implement internal processes to meet DOE and NNSA requirements regarding all matters related to classified activities in WCI. Collaborate with Classified Matter Protection and Control Office (CMPC) Manager to write new and revise existing institutional documents pertaining to the management of classified materials.
  • Assist senior level security specialists in the analysis, development, and implementation of security-related policies, procedures, methods, and practices. Collect and validate operational/administrative data and prepare reports.
  • Plan, coordinate and conduct inspections, reviews, and assessments to ensure work is conducted in compliance with DOE Security Orders and LLNL policy; compile data and report findings to managements, collaborate on solutions and initiate corrective actions.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new security procedures specific to WCI operations.
  • Support plans to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties at the J01.3 level

  • Serve as Institutional TSCM co-Chief Coordinator.
  • Qualify to independently perform security support duties for the Joint Laboratory Office Nevada (JLON).
  • Supervise exempt and/or non-exempt employees.
  • Author WCI security requirements and guidance.

Qualifications

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor’s degree, in security, science, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience.
  • Knowledge of security principles and regulatory requirements related to CMPC and the ability to understand and follow established LLNL/DOE practices, standards, processes, and systems.
  • Experience functioning effectively as a team member as well as working independently with a high degree of maturity, discretion, and judgment.
  • Experience working effectively under limited supervision in a fast-paced environment and the demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills necessary to recommend appropriate actions and solutions.
  • Experience working collaboratively on projects and the proven ability to build strong relationships with team members and clients.
  • Experience providing support for self-assessments and audits.
  • Proficiency with personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to interact with diplomacy and tact with a wide variety of personnel and disciplines internal and external to the Laboratory.
  • Demonstrated ability/commitment to valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in the workplace.

Additional Duties at the J01.3 level

  • Experience conducting self-assessments and/or participating in security-related audits.
  • Experience applying DOE and/or NNSA requirements/guidance, orders and regulations governing physical and/or information security.

  • Previous experience working effectively in a classified environment.
  • Experience working in a scientific or technical program.
