Description
The Business Systems Analyst formulates and defines systems scope and objectives based on both user needs and a good understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results. Includes analysis of business and user needs, documentation of requirements, and translation into proper system requirement specifications. Competent to work at a high level of most phases of systems analysis while considering the business implications of the application of technology to the current and future business environment.
Job Duties:
- Acts as primary liaison between the application team and the user community, responsible for facilitating communications, coordinating system enhancements, and providing production support.
- Ensures the framework of System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes and phases are followed.
- Works with user community to define business requirements in sufficient detail that systems configuration, development/enhancement, and/or operations activities can be pursued.
- Research alternative uses of existing technology or other systems currently in use to enhance user functionality within systems as guided by management.
- Provide ideas and inputs for team decisions on system improvements, to ensure user-friendliness and reduce inefficiencies and support the implementation of these improvements.
- Work with the application team to verify data, and developing tools to search, analyze and visualize data from various sources. Seeks guidance from experienced team members when necessary. Provides guidance to less experienced team members.
- Guides user community to define business use cases in sufficient detail that subsequent quality assurance efforts can guarantee system changes/enhancements satisfy the business requirements.
- Guides internal quality assurance efforts to verify functional system behavior.
- Guides the user community to coordinate quality assurance and acceptance testing efforts to verify functional system behavior.
- Guides other staff to educate/train members of the user community in proper and effective use of the application system.
- Provides implementation support for software components of moderate complexity.
- Provides production support for software components of moderate complexity.
- Successfully passes the Certification of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA) certification after 18 months on the job.
Requirements
Experience and Knowledge:
- A solid understanding of business functional areas, business management issues and data analysis.
- Advanced knowledge of Systems Analysis with focus on customer requirements and concepts of the software development lifecycle
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to conduct research and analysis in order to come up with solutions to business problems and help to introduce solutions to the business.
- Communicating technical problems and solutions to non-technical users and stakeholders.
- Problem-solving and reporting skills.
- Project management skills for design and development.
- The ability to construct and work to deadlines.
- Basic knowledge of Credit Union products and services, features, and benefits.
- Able to explain highly technical concepts, policies and procedures clearly and succinctly to others.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in related technical/business area plus 3 years of IT or business experience. 5 years of additional experience can be substituted in lieu of degree.
- Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA) certification.

Salary Description
$87,000 – $108,700 Annually (DOE)
