Network Operations Center Analyst – Associate

UPMC’s Data Communication team is expanding and looking to hire motivated individuals to support the Network Operations Center. The NOC Analysts will be located at Forbes Tower or Northpointe Data Centers. The NOCprovides 24/7 monitoring of all enterprise network devices, level 1 troubleshooting to support services to end-users whose locations may be experiencing a network connection problem, and responds to IP and port requests within the data center.

The NOC Analyst position maintains a 24x7x365 network monitoring and break/fix environment within the UPMC data and voice communications network. The Analyst performs network surveillance by utilizing multiple network element management platforms and tools to monitor the multi-vendor environment and ensure that network connectivity, availability and performance are maintained at all times and meet departmental goals for uptime and availability. This role will react to network alerts, accesses network switches, routers, and other devices to identify issues and troubleshoot problems with a goal of immediate resolution whenever possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to communicate among highly technical teams.
  • Provide service to ISD client community, patients, families and visitors, while protecting the integrity and confidentiality of all data and information through physical and electronic measures.
  • Understand and explain network topologies, network hardware, and protocols.
  • Monitor network alarms utilizing Tivoli, Statseeker, and Alcatel 5620 SAM.
  • Respond to unfamiliar, undefined, unexpected, or unstable situations with the professionally prescribed standard response.
  • Successfully completes projects, tasks, and initiatives by embracing a team-first approach. Works in collaboration with team and offers feedback, where appropriate, to complete individual and group efforts. Shows the ability to adjust and be flexible to change by adapting approach when necessary.
  • Coordinate testing and troubleshoot WAN circuits with various vendors.
  • Plan, publish, maintain, and distribute technical documentation pertaining to UPMC’s Data Center network including pictures, procedures, practices, and problem determination guidelines as requested.
  • Responsible for documenting requirements and working with the team (customer, vendors, and engineers) to design, develop and oversee implementations that meet the customer’s requirements and maximize availability of Voice/Data Network systems.
  • Provide Level 1 support of UPMCs Network environment and all supporting components.
  • Coordinate and support installation of network hardware including, but not limited to routers, switches, servers, etc. as outlined and documented in assigned project(s) and/or initiative(s).
  • Solid analytical and organizational skills with clear focus under pressure.
  • Maintain documentation, outlining wiring and interconnection for all UPMC facilities, wiring/fiber distribution configurations, cross-connection to data communications hardware (switches, routers, hubs, etc.), and other hardware as part of all projects and/or initiatives.
  • Proficiently applies IT methods, professional knowledge, and UPMC standards and practices.
  • Responsible for demonstrating appropriate, clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications in all interactions to build relationships and accomplish day-to-day work and projects.
  • Responsible for continuous self-study, trainings, partnering with more senior members of team, and/or seeking out opportunities to broaden scope to stay up to date with industry and organizational trends. Seeks feedback from senior team members for development and effectively incorporates feedback into work and behaviors.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the operational support of data networks and network management tools through education or practical experience.
  • Effective in relationships with business partners, professional peers, and other team members.
  • Familiar with various sniffer products.
  • Analytical skills and an understanding of Data Center networking.
  • Understanding of the TCP/IP protocol (TCP and UDP).
  • Hands-on practical experience with Cisco platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CCNA level certification (or vendor specific equivalent).
  • Experience in working within a NOC environment.
  • Experience logging into routers/switches.
