Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Office of University Communications is responsible for the strategic management of the University’s overall public relations and reputation management activities. The department provides leadership, counsel and services to over 200 communicators across campus and works with those communicators to ensure a unified campus-wide communications strategy. Areas within University Communications include: Executive Communications, Media Relations, Internal Communications, Content Development, Social Media, Marketing Communications, Strategic Resources, Issues Management, Community Relations, Public Records, the UNC-Chapel Hill Visitor’s Center, and UNC Creative.

Position Summary

UNC-Chapel Hill’s University Communications department seeks a campus content specialist to create and publish written content on its digital platforms, unc.edu, The Well and other websites. This is a perfect position for a communications professional who wants to write about important University initiatives and programs, profile top students and highlight the expertise of Carolina’s world-class faculty and staff. Successful candidates will develop content that engages and informs the campus community and positions the University as a vibrant place to teach, learn and work.

Reporting to the director of digital planning and production, the campus content specialist also maintains multiple websites using tools including WordPress and Photoshop. In addition, this position manages the production and distribution of a campuswide e-newsletter through Salesforce. Successful candidates will have excellent writing abilities, experience managing websites, strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience writing for digital media. Experience with digital publishing platforms such as WordPress. Success working in a deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing, new media or journalism.
