Career Advisor – Ivy+ Career Link 3E Grant (6 positions open)

General Description of Position:

The 3E Engage, Explore, and Experience Grant Career Advisor provides career advising services to assist students in grades 7-12 in career exploration and discovery that will culminate in the completion of a Next Level Program of Study, Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment, or finding post-secondary success in a Career + College scenario. Reports to the campus 3E Engage, Explore, and Experience Grant Program Manager and works collaboratively with Greater Lafayette Commerce, Skyepack, and Ivy Tech Ivy+ Career Link staff, Academic Advisors, K-14 Director and other faculty and staff to meet the career development needs of middle school and high school students and to meet or exceed grant metrics.
This position is contingent on the start-up grant funding as 3E Engage, Explore, and Experience Grant is launched across the region. Sustainable funding is actively being secured to activate upon the expiration of the grants to financially support the role. If sustainable funding is not secured upon the expiration of these grants, there will be no guarantee of continued employment in this position. Currently, this position is funded until September 2024.

Major Responsibilities:

Partners with campus Executive Director of Ivy+ Career Link, 3E Engage, Explore, and Experience Grant Program Manager, Skyepack, and Greater Lafayette Commerce to build out campus strategy and plan to meet and exceed related grant goals.
Career Advisor will advise and track progress of students in completing dual credit or dual enrollment courses and/or Next Level Programs of Study. Actions taken by students, under the guidance of the Career Advisor, will include, but are not limited to the student completing a Next Level Program of Study program, dual credit and/or dual enrollment courses, four-year high school planning, two-year post-secondary planning, resume completion, mock interviews, employer engagement. Ensures the student participates in Industry Tours, Career+ Chats, and/or other Career+ activities including but limited to, HireMe! Interview events, job shadowing, work and learn experiences, internship opportunities, etc. throughout the duration of the grant.
Leads efforts to build awareness of career and education pathway opportunities at regional schools including, but not limited to: career exploration, job search tools, experiential learning opportunities and dual-credit. Partners with aligned campus stakeholders to promote a career development culture on the school campus at large. Works collaboratively with 3E Engage, Explore, and Experience Grant Program Manager, Ivy+ Career Link Director, Skyepack, Greater Lafayette Commerce and K-14 Director to deliver presentations and events.
Develops and reports on lead indicators and results connected to Career+ participation including frequency of one to one and group sessions, Next Level Programs of Study completion, and other pertinent data. Remains current on employment trends and matches those with program opportunities. Develops strategies to track impacts of career advising on student development and attain campus metrics on student college and career pathway and conversion to postsecondary; recommends strategies to improve students’ outcomes.
Oversees portals used by students related to career awareness and exploration, and student career case management.
Works with 3E Engage, Explore, and Experience Grant Program Manager to establish and grow a consistent operational model for the delivery of experiential learning and other skill-based practicum experiences. Works to engage with employers to identify and develop student capacities in workforce and career readiness.
Develops deep understanding and appreciation of student career advising and best practices including core career development methodology.
Participates in professional growth, development, and training programs related to career advising and/or coaching.
Participates in weekly and/or monthly meetings with campus Executive Director of Ivy+ Career Link, 3E Engage, Explore, and Experience Grant Program Manager, Skyepack, Greater Lafayette Commerce, and school administration/staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: 3E Engage, Explore, and Experience Grant Program Manager

Minimum Qualifications:

Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution.

A minimum of one (1) year related experience in career development and/or advising along with case management and relationship management experience is required. Relationship management ensures strategy in regard to partnership, loyalty and retention on the student’s behalf, while case management is specific to the context of an individual’s career development case, including but not necessarily limited to assessment, planning and goal setting, preparation, exploration, and identifying steps toward launch goals.

Proficiency, familiarity or certifications in standard career assessments such as: Strong Interest Inventory, and Clifton StrengthsFinder preferred.

Demonstrated experience or ability to work with a youth audience (students 7-12th grade) is preferred.
Must demonstrate ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees and which every individual feels respected and valued.

Demonstrated skills and abilities to concurrently manage numerous tasks, some with conflicting priorities required.

Must have excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Commitment to student learning outcomes, staff development, and diversity required.

Must be able and willing to travel to and from campuses and professional development activities.

Ability to work within an entrepreneurial framework and scale a large project required.
