The Maintenance and Operations Department is seeking (1) Carpenter II to join the already awesome team taking the Building Maintenance Department to the next level of excellence!

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The ideal candidate will have a variety of skilled carpentry and general construction duties supporting the maintenance and repair and performing a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. In addition to supporting the department Carpenter II will also:

  • Will assist and instruct other carpenters on projects. Installs doors, frames, sheetrock, chalkboards, ceilings, and floors, making additions, extensions, or alterations.
  • Performs a variety of preventive maintenance functions; inspects and repairs doors, floors, and locks.
  • Hangs and maintains GSU banners.
  • Operates various carpentry equipment and tools, including saws, routers, drills, sanders, planers, and various hand tools.
  • Performs rough framing duties; cut, trim, hang, and finish doors, sliding doors, enclosures, and overhangs.
  • Will assemble, install and repair cabinets, bookcases, chairs, desks, and tables.
  • Installs and replaces window frames and broken windows.
  • Reads and follows blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches supporting the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Serves as a lead worker over a small group of employees; instructs others in the proper use of tools used in the carpentry trade.
  • Will be working with an automated work order system.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required

Qualifications:

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

  • Technical or vocational degree and two years of related experience; or a high school diploma or GED and four years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of locks/Panic mechanisms and automatic doors and sliders. Handicap accessibility rules and some knowledge of fire code as related to carpentry.
  • Ability to drive a forklift.
  • Considerable knowledge of equipment, practices, and procedures of the carpentry trade.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools of the carpentry trade.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds.
  • Ability to access confined spaces.
  • Ability to plan, layout, and execute carpentry work of average difficulty.
  • Ability to work from sketches and blueprints.
  • Experience as a lead person.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • A valid GA driver’s license.
