Key job responsibilities
We are seeking a music aficionado Catalog Specialist II for our metadata operations team to help maintain and grow scalable editorial metadata processes supporting our growing customer and catalog needs.
• QA Global Weekly New Release Genre Tagging of Albums and Tracks
• Provide reporting on related metadata metrics
• Maintaining existing and creating new Standard Operation Procedures
• Auditing Metadata Automation outputs
• Operating through obstacles to achieve program objectives
• Be a subject matter expert across various music catalog metadata attributes (ie: Original Release Date, Language of Performance, Version Types, etc.)
• Identify and analyze data to isolate issues, develop solutions, and prioritize opportunities for improving the customer experience.
• Make recommendations that balance short team needs against the long-term business benefit.
• Balance competing and conflicting priorities across teams and escalate effectively when needed to advocate for the needs of the organization or customers, even if it may seem uncomfortable.
A day in the life
A key part of this role would be establishing and executing on key processes to ensure content is assigned the correct editorial metadata, quality auditing, and support of automation programs for genre/subgenre/mood/theme metadata attributes. This role would be the subject matter expert in genre tagging that supports the customer journey throughout our service. This role would contribute to Amazon Music’s efforts to provide credible and cohesive experiences for our most discerning customers, whether listening to a generated station or playlist, getting suggested additions to a personal playlist, or browsing for content in their recommendations. Because genre distinctions are often subtle and always changing, this candidate will need to be knowledgeable in sub-genres and microgenres, and up to date on the classic and the latest trending music content and cultures. The candidate should appreciate and champion nuance in music genres, understanding distinctions between artists like Will Smith and Tupac, who though were both producing rap music in the 1990s, were of very different cultures and scenes, and may have different fan bases.

The Digital Music Catalog and Selection Excellence (CASE) team is responsible for generating content for Amazon’s various digital music services. Our goal is to build metadata, technologies and processes that create distinctive products for our customers. We want to help our customers discover up-and-coming artists, while also having access to their favorite established musicians. We build systems that are distributed on a large scale, spanning our music apps, web player, and voice-forward audio engagement on mobile and Amazon Echo devices. Amazon Music offerings are available in countries around the world, and our applications support our mission of delivering music to customers in new and exciting ways that enhance their day-to-day lives. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
– Bachelor’s degree or music industry equivalent experience is required.
– Multi-Genre/Sub-Genre and Decade depth of musical domain knowledge.
– Experience implementing repeatable processes and driving automation or standardization.
– Demonstrated bias for action with strengths in problem solving, issue-resolution, ability to work in a deadline driven work environment, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
– Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements.
– Experience defining and executing against program requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Professional experience and demonstrated increasing responsibility.
– Music Industry experience.
– Metadata Operations experience.
– Demonstrated ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, schedule tradeoffs and evaluate opportunistic new ideas with technical employees.
– Small to Medium tech acumen.
– Analytical and quantitative skills; ability to function with business owners to define key business questions, demonstrated success in solving difficult problems.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $36,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $86,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
