Overview

The Catering Coordinator Operator is responsible for supporting the Assistant General Manager, Senior Catering Manager and the Catering Managers providing support for events and is a key position for effective and profitable operation of the business. This role is responsible for overseeing certain aspects of the Catering Department’s daily activities in accordance with OVG policies, procedures and objectives to ensure guest satisfaction, profitability and providing a positive, productive and compliant work environment. The Catering Coordinator must provide a consistently high level of oversight and operation/personnel support to ensure the smooth execution of all assigned events. Coordinator will actively supervise, coach, counsel, direct, train and mentor employees in meeting company quality standards. This position requires applicant to maintain excellent attendance and be available to work a variable event-driven schedule which includes early mornings, evenings and weekends. The Coordinator could have other duties assigned to them on a day to day basis.

This role will pay a wage of $20 to $24.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to the Catering Department with coordination and communication of all Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) with Lead servers.
  • Updates the BEO Book promptly for accurate execution of events.
  • Oversee the Catering Department staff, providing leadership and support, ensuring all events are executed according to the Banquet Event Order (BEO) outline / guidelines.
  • Participates in weekly BEO meetings and staff meetings, as required, to help facilitate events as they are written in the BEO.
  • Prep schematics for staff to follow for buffets to ensure accuracy of buffet setups.
  • Ability to read, understand and execute any changes to BEO’s that are communicated.
  • Adaptable to work in a fast-paced, high pressure environment to organize and orchestrate any last-minute changes to event details effectively.
  • Supervise the daily operations of the Catering area (examples: maintain supplies, review set-up and food and beverage preparation and service) to ensure compliance with policies and procedures, Banquet Event Orders and safety regulations to ensure optimal level of service, quality and hospitality.
  • Required to occasionally serve alcohol and ability to ensure all staff members serving alcohol are following all OVG / Iowa Events Center policy / procedures in accordance with local / state / federal laws. Report any concerns to the Senior Catering Manager
  • Schedules and runs the monthly Lead Server meeting, with oversight of the Senior Catering Manager or Catering Managers
  • Trains, coaches, mentors & evaluates Catering Servers in accordance with the standards of the company polices and guidelines
  • Oversee catered events as directed.

Qualifications

  • Associates or higher education degree in Hospitality Management, Business, or other similar field. Degree requirement may be substituted for two or more years’ experience in hospitality management, food & beverage management, business management or related administrative management position with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced event driven environment.
  • Intermediate computer skills in a Windows format with experience in MS Word, Excel & Outlook.
  • Detail oriented, ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize many tasks.
