The Opportunity:
This position is in the Nondestructive Examinations (NDE) Engineering organization, which specializes in designing custom remotely controlled, robotic manipulators and controllers and the associated visual, ultrasonic, or eddy current inspection techniques needed to inspect nuclear reactor plant components. This particular role will focus on working with government customer such as national laboratories to help further clean energy initiative across the U.S. This position is located in Lynchburg, VA.
What You’ll Do at Framatome:
- Work as part of a multi-disciplined engineering team that includes Mechanical, Electrical and Software engineers
- Create first-of-a-kind solutions to meet customer needs and respond to emergent issues
- Prepare technical documents to support tool operation or design specification.
- Perform conceptual and detailed robotic or tooling design utilizing SolidWorks and other CAD packages.
- Design equipment that must meet rigid quality requirements and maneuver and operate in difficult environments.
- Support tooling qualification and acceptance testing.
- Travel to plant sites to get hands-on experience and see your designs put into action.
- Provide technical support for newly deployed tooling and robotics

Required Experience
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for this opportunity:
- BS in Mechanical Eng’g/Eng’g Tech. or related degree program with emphasis on engineering design plus a minimum of 2 years of engineering experience. An advanced degree may be substituted for related exp. (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.). In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 yr engineering degree
The following may be used to differentiate candidates who apply for this position:
- Fundamental computer skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including technical writing
- A pro-active approach to problem identification and resolution
- Ability and attitude to learn a variety of new procedures, processes, and tools, while maintaining various stages of production
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced atmosphere
- Strong “hands on” work skills (assembly, equipment / tooling checkout and testing, etc.)
- Ability to travel sporadically both internationally and domestically
- Experience working at government facilities or with government customers such as DOE, Naval Nuclear Laboratory, U.S. national laboratories, etc.
- Working knowledge of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensional and Tolerancing).
- Working knowledge of various NDE techniques including Ultrasonic and Eddy Current techniques
- Mechanical Design Experience, SolidWorks, SmarTeam, SAP knowledge, Welding, Machining, Microsoft Office experience.
- Familiarity and experience with ASME code.
- Co-op, intern, or work experience in the nuclear industry.

Our Total Rewards Package
The range of base salary for the position is between $70,000 – $92,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
