Description
The Cary Senior Center is seeking energetic, responsible, and flexible individuals at least 18 years of age to help foster a welcoming environment for visitors to the Senior Center. The Center Aide IV should be a strong multi-tasker, detail-oriented, and committed to providing exceptional customer service to make the visitor experience as safe, rewarding, and enjoyable as possible.
The Cary Senior Center serves all ages and abilities, but also many different cultures, ethnicities, and nationalities. We seek people who are comfortable with, sensitive to, and interested in working with people from all walks of life.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
This position requires a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends to support rental events.
Typical Tasks
- Greets visitors, answers the telephone, and serves as a front desk receptionist;
- Receives and responds to citizen inquiries, complaints, and requests for services;
- Provides Town information and materials to citizens or redirects to the appropriate staff;
- Registers citizens for Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources programs;
- Maintains citizen accounts;
- Sells items through Point of Sale and performs basic accounting for money received through the cash register;
- Updates lobby/facility display boards;
- Performs light housekeeping as needed;
- Sets up rooms (rearranging room set ups or total setup of tables and chairs);
- Assists with setup and cleanup of special events (decoration, food service, trash);
- Monitors program participation and keeps track of volunteer hours for reporting purposes;
- Prepares mailings;
- Notifies patrons of cancelations, changes or updates to programs;
- Notifies supervisor of needed supplies and facility issues;
- Opens and/or closes and secures the facility when assigned;
- Assists patrons with facility rentals and room reservation inquiries;
- Conducts tours of facility and rental spaces, providing verbal information as well as specified handouts regarding reservation process and policies, etc.;
- Maintains office files;
- Processes accurate deposits within established deadlines;
- Performs data entry and prepares report information as needed;
- Assists in the orientation and training of new temporary staff and serves as an example to employees on The Cary Way;
- Completes First Aid/CPR training;
- Performs other job-related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of computers and related software; general knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; ability to complete assignments accurately and prior to the established deadline; skill in the operation of common office equipment; general knowledge of cash collection procedures; ability to meet the public effectively; ability to communicate effectively; ability to deal with the public in a firm but tactful manner; ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with others; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to acquire knowledge of policies, procedures and services of the center, division and department; ability to maintain filing systems.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Requires a combination of education or experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED.
Physical Requirements:
Assignments are primarily clerical, indoors and may require sitting and the use of a computer for extended time periods.
Conditions of Employment
