Seasonal Ceramics Teacher

Our Ceramics Teacher position at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows is a part-time, temporary position. Have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our community’s youth and teens in a highly rewarding work environment. This program is currently open, and will last the duration of the BGCTM summer program, which ends on August 11, 2023. The possibility to extend the program will be contingent upon additional funding.
Our Mission: To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as caring, productive, responsible citizens.
These are some of the additional things you will do as a Ceramics Teacher.
- Travel to various BGCTM Clubhouses, including sites in Reno, Sparks, Spanish Springs, Lemmon Valley, and potentially Fernley.
- Develop a ceramics based art curriculum to be taught to BGCTM members.
- Track inventory and notify Art Director as supplies are needed for program facilitation.
- Instruct members, age(s) 6-17, in ceramics skills/techniques, including, but not limited to pottery, wheel throwing, coil, pinch, casting, sculpting, firing, and glazing.
- Cultivate a positive atmosphere, in line with the Club’s Be GREAT values.
- Ensure strict adherence to all kiln safety guidelines, protocols, and industry best practices, promoting a culture of safety within the ceramics studio.
- Maintain a clean and orderly environment at all times

This is what your schedule could look like:
- This role is part time, 15-20 hour/week position. We always aim for consistent schedules for our staff to promote work-life balance.
- Shifts are:
- 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Schedule Varies)
- Reno Clubhouses
Qualifications
We have great staff that can teach you skills on the job, but there are some traits that will make you more successful as a Before & After School Program Instructor.
- You are a fun, energetic, and excited individual
- You have a passion for the arts
- You have 6 months or more of experience teaching ceramics to youth and teens
- You have a passion for building a better community
- You have the ability to communicate and cooperate with children, other staff, and parents.
- Minimum of 21 years or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
As part of our commitment to child and member safety, there are some additional steps that all hires will be asked to complete.
- You will need to provide 3 references. These references should be professional references if you have work experience. If you don’t have work experience, these references can be any non-family member over the age of 18 who can speak to your character and professionalism.
- You will also be asked to complete a drug screen for any illegal substances, background check, and fingerprint check.
